Description
Process for the production of a paint base material from modified Phenolic resins using tall oil The invention relates to a method for Obtaining a paint base from modified phenolic resin. under use of tall oil.
For the production of varnish resins one has phenolic resins with natural resins, like rosin, fused and also has an esterification with hydroxyl-containing at the same time Fabrics made in one operation. Resins are obtained that have such a high molecular weight are that they are not soluble in either hydrocarbons or oils, so that they must be cracked again for use as a paint. You have that The reaction was therefore directed in such a way that the molecular size only reached such a degree that that the resins could be further processed in lacquer technology.
As a result of the lack of drying oils, efforts have long been made the tall oil and its distillates obtained during the sulphate outflow of the Cel.lulo.se to be used for the production of paints. If tall oil distillates containing high resin are heated with esterifying agents, such as polyalcohols and low-condensation resols, in one operation and the reaction mixture of esters and condensation products If you continue with tall oil fatty acids, you get paints that have a too brittle film result, so that blending with plasticizers is necessary was. Through this they got a dark color, so that light colors or even white colors out of them could not be established.
The surprising observation has now been made that one is too high-quality Paint base materials come when you work in two stages so that a resol first condensed with tall oil resin acids and the resulting adduct on top in one the second step is esterified with tall oil fatty acids and a polyalcohol. Accordingly, the present invention relates to a process for the production of paint base materials made from modified phenolic resins using tall oil, which is characterized by that one in a known manner by alkaline condensation of phenols and aldehydes Resole obtained with a low degree of condensation with resin acids in tall oil distillation at about 24o to 26o ° C and 3 to ao mm pressure passing fraction with more than 60 '/ o resin acid content heated at an elevated temperature of about 29o ° C and that here obtained condensation product with fatty acids in .der tall oil distillation about 2io to 23o ° C and 3 to ao mm pressure transferring fraction with more than 6o ° / o fatty acid content and a higher alcohol to about 28o ° C until it is reached the acid number 15 heated. Example 825 kg of a tall oil fraction, which at temperatures passes from about 24o to 26o ° C and a reduced pressure of about 3 to 20 mm IIg and which contain more than about 60% abietic acid are mixed with 325 kg of resol, the by alkaline condensation of phenol and formaldehyde to a lower condensation product is obtained, heated in a distillation vessel with stirring. Upon reaching a A temperature of about 120 ° C sets in a rather violent reaction, with under Separation of water a condensation takes place, which when a temperature is reached of about 2oo ° C slowly decays. The temperature is now increased to about 29o ° C, and heating continues until the acid number of the reaction mixture shows that originally was around 17o, to below around 8o, e.g. B. to 6o to 70, has fallen, which takes about 2 to 3 hours.
During this treatment, the mass becomes much more viscous. It solidifies to a resin when it cools down. The resin obtained in this way is as hard as a spring, of a softening point of about 95 ° C, of amber yellow color, completely clear excellent lacquer properties and can laugh and in the usual way All kinds of paints can be processed.
For further processing of this hard resin into a lacquer, 150 kg of the condensation product obtained in the first stage, 245o kg of a tall oil fraction obtained at temperatures of about 21o to 23o ° C and 3 to 20 mm Hg, have a fatty acid content of more than 6o % and has an acid number of about 17o, and about 350 kg of pentaerythritol are added and the mixture is heated to about 28o ° C.
After the acid number has dropped to about 30 , the mass is further heated under vacuum for about 3 to 5 hours and the water of condensation and other volatile constituents are distilled off, the acid number falling to about 15. This is followed by heating for about 2 to 3 hours at over 25o ° C, after which the resulting paint body can be pumped out while it is still hot.
In contrast to the simultaneous processing of resoles with tall oil and esterifying agents in one operation are obtained by the present process in the first stage a highly polymerized resin, in the second stage a lacquer base material by boiling with tall oil fatty acid and subsequent esterification which has excellent properties. He's using drying oils as well Compatible with other oil-soluble natural and synthetic resins. This can be the mixing made both by boiling in the heat and in solution in the cold will. The paint base is in the usual solvents such as white spirit, turpentine oil, Benzene, homologues, etc., easily and clearly soluble. It can be sikkativiert in the usual way and pigment.
The paints made from this varnish are easy to spread, show a good flow and dry in the air to an elastic, clear and mechanically resistant film of good through-hardenability and good Weather resistance. The light color of the new paint is particularly advantageous, see above that he is suitable for the production of clear lacquers and light colors, especially white colors, suitable.
