Process for the evaporation of formamide For the production of hydrogen cyanide
From formamide, the type of evaporation of the formamide plays a decisive role.
Forrmamid has a boiling point of around 2oo °. At this temperature already occurs
a substantial portion of the formamide in carbon dioxide and ammonia. Formamide can be
in a very high vacuum and when using glass or stainless steels or precious metals
Evaporate urine. That for the avoidance of the decomposition of the F.ormamids at
However, evaporation required high vacuum cannot be maintained
if the Forma.mid is to serve for the production of hydrogen cyanide, 'since the between
the generation of the vacuum and the evaporation of the Form @ amide activated contact
and cleaning equipment does not have the low pressure that would be necessary in the evaporator
permitted. In addition, the hydrogen cyanide formed in the reaction, if
you want to win it as a free acid, sucked off by the vacuum pump and not
ready to be deposited before the pump. For generating a high
Vacuums would require unusually high investments for this reason alone.
To push back the cracks of the formamide in carbon dioxide and ammonia,
it has therefore already been suggested that the Formia @ rnid be overheated
Surfaces
to which it should be evaporated immediately when it hits, without settling
to be separated in liquid form in the evaporator. Such rapid evaporation
should be carried out according to another proposal that has become known,
there, one dä, s Formäanid in an inclined pipe heated from the outside - with soother
Clesch speed drops that. all of the formimide at the exit of the tube
has evaporated. Significant disadvantage in carrying out this proposal.
on an industrial scale, it is that a plurality of tubes is necessary, whose
each for itself must be loaded with a precisely dosed Mehge Formtimid.
heraus verdampft. It has now been found that to avoid noticeable losses in yield
by decomposition of the FOTmam, ids- in carbon oxide. and ammonia contrary to the previous one
It is not necessary to carry out the evaporation in a very high vacuum.,
But that decomposition can also be prevented by using the formimide
at moderate negative pressure or atmospheric pressure from a sump of liquid formanvid
evaporated out.
The farniamide is advantageously evaporated in a large number of externally heated tubes which are immersed in the sump of the formamide. For this purpose one can use the formtimide in the lower part of an as. Introduce verodampfee formed tube body, the tubes of which are heated by irritant gases expediently guided from top to bottom. The formamide rises from the sump at the bottom of the evaporator in the tubes and evaporates from the surface of the layer that it forms in the individual tubes and the height of which is given by the temperature of the heating gases; very quickly, with the formamide vapor at the same time the temperature required for the subsequent contact furnace is heated.- This procedure enables the vaporizer to be charged with- = F-oarmamid by means of a single Rotamasser and the automatic control of the amount of the evaporation in each individual tube. Formamids. .If e.g. B. in individual tubes due to a particularly good heat transfer an increased evaporation of Formtimid uses, the counter pressure increases due to the larger amount evaporated Foxmtimids and lets the liquid level in these Roden sink, whereby the heating surface is smaller and the evaporation rate is accordingly lower. If, on the other hand, the heat transfer in individual tubes is lower as a result of incrustations, the evaporation process is compensated for by the rise in the liquid level. In order to remove the formimide as quickly as possible from the temperature zone which is particularly favorable for decomposition, one can. because. Keep the diameter of the evaporator tubes as small as possible or, what has proven to be particularly useful, provide the roller blinds with displacement bodies in such a way that an annular space with a width of only a few millimeters is created. The operation according to the invention not only ensures that the Formami @ d which affects the boiling zone is rapidly evaporated, but also that the Formamide steam is brought to the temperature of 36o ° and higher required at the contact as quickly as possible. The rapid passage through the temperature zone from the boiling point of the formamide up to 36o ° is of great importance for the yield of hydrogen cyanide, since as the temperature rises, the rate at which the formimide breaks down into alkali oxide and ammonia increases, up to 36o ° a temperature has been reached at which only cleavage into hydrogen cyanide and water vapor takes place.
The rapid passage of the formamide vapor through this critical
Temperature range is not used in any of the processes described for the evaporation of

on overheated surfaces without a sump-liquid formamide being present,
