Die außen angelenkte, vorzugsweise nach Anspruch 2 zur Unterbringung im Nichtgebrauch über die Ansaugöffnung legbare bzw. in eine ausgeschwenkte Stellung verstellbare Platte dient in der einen Lage der Schaffung eines zusätzlichen erfaßbaren Einfangraums für Abluft, also Dunst, Dampf und Wrasen, die andernfalls vom Gebläse der Dunstabzugshaube nicht erfaßt werden könnten, und in der anderen Lage, falls erwünscht, dem äußeren Abschließen der Dunstabzugshaube. Die Funktion der verbesserten Ansaugung ist insbesondere bei größeren Inselhauben bedeutsam, die wenigstens an einer Seite eine zusätzliche Abluft-Einfangwand erhalten. Fig. 1 zeigt schematisch eine Dunstabzugshaube mit einem Gehäuse 1, das an seiner rechteckigen Unterfläche 2 eine Ansaugöffnung 3 für Abluft, insbesondere für Küchenherd-Dünste, aufweist. Über die Unterseite 2 und damit über die Öffnung 3 ist eine Verschlußplatte 4 klappbar, die in ihrer aufgeklappten Stellung als Fangschild für aufsteigende Dünste dient, welche andernfalls an der Haube vorbeiziehen würden.
