Coalescing separator

The innovation concerns coalescence separators for cleaning wastewater contaminated with light liquids in dispersed form.

It is known (DE-C 37 04 911) to design the coalescence insert as a cylinder and to arrange it around the float lock located upstream of the clean water outlet near the bottom. The coalescence insert normally has an inner basket that surrounds the cage for the float lock.

The coalescence insert protrudes a certain amount beyond the mirror present in normal operation.

However, during operation, a maximum inflow or overcrowding of the coalescence insert can lead to a build-up that exceeds the upper edge of the coalescence insert, so that untreated wastewater can briefly enter the interior of the float cage and flow away. The task of preventing this malfunction is solved by the new design by closing the hollow cylindrical coalescence insert at the top with a cover. A short-circuit current can no longer occur. The wastewater must completely pass through the coalescence insert.

Since the coalescence insert contains an inner basket around which the coalescence medium is placed, the lid is preferably firmly connected to this basket. If a handle is provided on the lid, the entire coalescence insert can be pulled out for inspection and, if necessary, backwashing. It is also a good idea to hang the sensor probe, which reports the overflow, on the lid. It can then be removed before pulling out the coalescence insert and does not hinder removal and installation.

The illustration shows a new coalescence separator in vertical axial section. The separator housing 1 consists of a basin part 2, a cover plate 3, a support ring 4 and the shaft cover 5. If the installation depth is frost-free, shaft components are inserted between the cover plate and the support ring. The inlet and outlet lines

6, 7 penetrate the basin part 2 at pipe joints 8, 9, which prevent the pipes from leaking if the surrounding soil settles. A float valve 10 is arranged in front of the outlet of the drain pipe 7, which is brought forward to the center and is surrounded by a guide cage 11. The hollow cylindrical coalescence insert 12 is placed over the guide cage. The holder for the coalescence insert is a disk 14 with a raised plug-in collar attached to the valve seat 13.

The coalescence insert 12 is closed at the top by a lid. The lid has a handle 16 and is firmly connected to the basket that supports the coalescence insert, so that the insert can easily be pulled out upwards. 17 is the holder for a probe or a float switch 18 that senses and reports the overflow.
