Zum Aufbringen einer solchen Schicht eignen sich bei eisernen Oberflächen insbesondere die Brünier-, Phosphat- und Chromatverfahren, gegebenenfalls unter Zuhilfenahme von Kühl- und Schmiermitteln. Bei Aluminium und seinen Legierungen ist das zur Oberflächenbehandlung bekannte Verfahren unter Verwendung alkalischer Chromatlösungen geeignet, während bei Zink beispielsweise eine Chromatisierung die gewünschten Eigenschaften der Oberfläche ergibt.
