Abstract

The seam ironing machine levels seam allowances on the inner surfaces of garments. It comprises a tension device (2) for the garments as well as two ironing rollers (3) facing each other and exerting pressure on each other under pre-tension; these rollers can move along the seam to be ironed, thus rolling-off on the seams, and thereby separate and iron the seam allowances smooth. The seam ironing machine replaces manual separating and smoothing of seam allowances to a large extent which, as a rule, can only be carried out on horizontal ironing supports and which moreover require a relatively large amount of space. The seam ironing machine is particularly suitable for the production of ready-made clothing for the efficient aftertreatment of seam allowances. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a seam ironing machine for seam allowances of garments, in particular for trouser leg side seams.

When manufacturing garments, it is necessary to provide seam allowances for seams that protrude onto the inside of the garment after the seam has been completed.

Since seam allowances that do not fit the fabric can lead to undesirable creases when ironing the garments, which can push through the fabric and also affect the comfort of wearing

, these protruding seam allowances are ironed so that they lie against the fabric on both sides of the seam.

With known ironing devices, the clothes to be ironed are placed on an ironing board , the seam allowances are separated, smoothed and usually ironed by hand.

Since ironing boards can only be used in a horizontal position, these well-known ironing devices require a relatively large footprint. One person is required for each ironing device, so that the ironing process is very time-consuming and therefore also a significant cost factor in the production of ready-made clothing.

Furthermore, known ironing devices only allow the ironing of one seam at a time.

The invention is based on the object of specifying a seam ironing machine which, using technically simple means, enables an ironing process which is essentially independent of personnel and which allows the work cycle times to be reduced whilst maintaining good ironing quality.

This object is achieved according to the invention in the seam ironing machine mentioned at the beginning by a tensioning device for items of clothing to be ironed and by two opposing ironing rollers which exert pressure on one another under pre-tension and which can be moved along the seam or seams to be ironed and are arranged with the respective roller shell surfaces so that they can be rolled on the seam for separating and ironing the seam allowances along the seam or seams.

Steam nozzles for applying steam to the seam or seams to be ironed.

Further embodiments have suction devices in/outlet molds or plates for drying the ironed seams.

It is also possible to adjust the seam ironing machine with tensioning at the front.

The use of this seam ironing machine according to the invention is particularly advantageous for smoothing trouser leg side seams, since it enables the simultaneous smoothing of the opposite side seams of a trouser leg.

Since the two ironing rollers are arranged opposite one another and roll on their respective surfaces when the garment is clamped between them, an ironing pad or support is not necessary, so that the seam ironing machine according to the invention can be manufactured very inexpensively.

Furthermore, these seam ironing machines can be arranged vertically, which is particularly advantageous for a small space requirement, i.e. the ironing process no longer takes place horizontally to the floor but vertically to it, so that several seam ironing machines can be set up in a small space and one person can operate several such machines in a cycle, which means that the number of ironed items of clothing per time can be increased significantly without additional strain on the operator.

The person working on the seam ironing machine only needs to insert or hang the garments turned inside out into the appropriate clamping devices and can after this activity immediately go to another seam ironing machine

Further advantages and features of the invention emerge from the following description of a preferred embodiment and from the drawings to which reference is made. They show:

A pair of trousers turned inside out (see Fig. 1) is clamped into the seam ironing machine shown in Fig. 2 at the hem and waistband so that the trouser leg is stretched lengthwise. The seam ironing machine has two ironing rollers 3 which can be moved along the two trouser leg side seams 7 starting at the trouser hem and exerting pressure on each other, separating the seam allowances and smoothing them at the same time. The ironing process runs from the trouser hem via point A to the end point B.

In the top view of the seam ironing machine according to Fig. 2 shown in Fig. 3, a tensioning device 2 for trouser legs can be seen. The tensioning device 2 is designed in such a way that it tensions the trouser leg entirely towards the trouser leg side seam 7 and the leg hem in the direction of the trouser leg side seam 7.

The embodiment of the seam ironing machine shown in Fig. 4 differs from that according to Fig. 2 and 3 in that instead of the suction device 5 there are suction molds or plates 6 which can be moved towards the trouser leg side seams 7 after the ironing process and can dry the entire trouser leg side seams 7 in one operation.

The following describes an ironing process using the seam ironing machine for trouser leg side seams:

In the first operation, a trouser leg turned inside out is inserted into the tensioning device 2 in such a way that the trouser hem is tensioned perpendicular to the trouser leg side seams 7 and the tension is exerted in the direction of the trouser leg side seams 7 via the part of the tensioning device 2 clamped to the trouser waistband.

The second operation, which can be triggered either manually or automatically, consists in the ironing rollers 3, together with the upstream and downstream steam nozzles 4 and suction devices 5, moving along the trouser leg side seams 7 in the direction of the latter, whereby the pressure of the ironing rollers 3 causes the seam allowances of the trouser leg side seams 7, which have already spread somewhat due to the tensioning process, to be completely separated from one another (unfolded) and smoothed in such a way that they lie against the fabric of the trousers.

In the next step, the ironing rollers 3, steam nozzles 4 and suction devices 5, which are either designed as a unit or can be moved individually, are returned to their starting position above the point Λ.

The last step involves removing the ironed trouser leg.

A particularly advantageous feature of this seam ironing device for trouser leg side seams is that both trouser leg side seams of a trouser leg can be ironed simultaneously in one ironing process and that the seam ironing machine no longer requires an ironing pad to generate the necessary ironing pressure.

Furthermore, the seam ironing machine according to the invention enables an ironing process that runs perpendicular to the installation surface, so that several seam ironing machines can be set up on a comparatively small area and, in particular, a so-called carousel operation is also possible.
