Device for knee and hip joint mobilization

The invention relates to a device for knee and hip joint mobilization, in particular for rehabilitation, for example in the context of postoperative treatment.

In order to regain the ability to use the legs, for example after surgical treatment or various illnesses, a targeted exercise program is often necessary in order to regain the flexibility of the joints that have been immobilized or otherwise impaired by the treatment, especially the knee and/or hip.

For this type of treatment, various mechanical devices in the form of so-called mobilization splints are known, which enable passive flexion of the knee joint. For this purpose, the lower leg is fixed on a splint that can be pivoted according to a pre-set degree of flexion.

The disadvantage of these known devices is that the knee joint bending limit of usually a maximum of 90 cannot be exceeded, while the

o effective flexion in the hip joint regularly remains below 90. The flexion process also takes place according to predefined parameters, i.e. adaptation to the patient's current condition is not possible, which often means that the pain threshold is reached or even exceeded.

This object is achieved according to the invention in that the device is designed as a cable pulling device, wherein this comprises a fixed or deflection pulley, a cable guided over this, at one end of which elastic holding means supporting the lower region of the thigh of a patient and at the other end a handle to be operated by the patient.

The advantages of such a device are its ease of use, universal applicability and automatic adjustment to a wide range of upper and lower leg lengths, ie the device can be used on children and adults alike without any adjustments or readjustments being necessary. In addition, the degree of flexion in the knee and hip joints up to the maximum knee joint flexion can be regulated individually and in accordance with the respective subjective condition - another major advantage over known rehabilitation measures for this purpose. At the first signs of pain, the patient can give in immediately.

In order to achieve a force application to the thigh with even pressure distribution, i.e. with the lowest possible specific surface pressure, the holding means can preferably be designed as a cuff or carrying strap with a saddle formed between two carrying straps, with the rope being attached in the area of the ends of the carrying straps and loosely tying them together. In order to achieve good flexibility and adaptability to different sizes and positions of the limbs to be supported, the holding means or the cuff forming them can advantageously be made of leather or a flexible synthetic material.

To make it easier for a patient lying down to use the handle, it is preferably designed as a handle bar . By adjusting the free length of the rope between the holding means/cuff and the handle/handle bar, the device can be adapted to the respective local conditions, which could, for example, consist of using a conventional bed gallows as a holder for the fat rolls.

In order to enable the most varied bending angles and convenient adjustment of the holding means to different patient sizes and/or positions in the simplest possible way, the holding means or carrying straps can be provided with an arcuate recess for the attachment of the rope in the area of their end, whereby the radius of the arc of the recesses essentially corresponds to the distance of the recesses from the saddle. This goal is also achieved by the fact that, in a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, the saddle is designed as a rounded edge on at least one side. Furthermore, putting on the cuff can be made easier by the fact that the attachment of the rope to the holding means or the cuff is designed to be easily detachable.

Further advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description of the embodiment of a knee and hip joint mobilization device according to the invention shown in the schematic drawing.

A fixed or deflection roller 2 is arranged in a suitable manner on a bed gallows 1 of a hospital bed (not shown), which is mounted so that it can rotate freely on a horizontal axis. A rope 3 is guided over the roller 2, at one end of which a handle 4 is attached and at the other end a sleeve 5 is attached. The sleeve 5 is designed as a carrying loop 6 with two carrying straps 7, which have a satellite between them.

Each support strap 7 is provided in the area of its end with an arcuate recess 9 through which the end of the rope 3 is pulled and is attached to the supporting strand, preferably in an easily detachable manner, to form a loop 10. The saddle 8 of the sleeve 5 is rounded on at least one edge 11.

To use the device, the cuff 5 is first opened by opening the loop formed at the end of the rope 3, so that the patient's leg can be placed with the thigh on the saddle 8 and can be enclosed between them by folding up the carrying straps 7. The position of the cuff 5 is selected so that the rounded edge 11 of the saddle 8 lies directly above the back of the knee; in this position the loop 10 is closed. After setting the appropriate distance between the handle 4 and the cuff 5, the patient can now raise the leg by pulling on the handle 4 or lower it by letting go. As a result of the lifting of the knee joint when pulling , and when the leg muscles are not tensed, the knee joint simultaneously bends as a result of the movement of the knee joint by lifting the thigh, whereby the patient can determine the angle of bending by regulating the stroke.
