Description
So macht z. Process for increasing the bond strength between metals and Rubber or rubber-like substances using isocyanates for production good bonds between metals and rubber and rubber compounds isocyanates used in many cases. The metals, especially iron, are in the general cleaning processes known for removing grease and rust layers subject. These cleaning procedures have been found to be necessary to get the best possible To achieve adhesive strengths. They are cumbersome and in many cases only can be carried out with special precautionary measures and great effort. Especially In stored cases, such a cleaning is not to be carried out at all. So does z. B. the cleaning of very thin steel wires from drawing soaps, anti-corrosion agents etc. considerable difficulties, especially when these thin wires become cords are intertwined. It has now been found that even without laborious chemical cleaning an improvement in bond strength can be achieved if such Metal parts, wires, cords, etc. before being treated with the isocyanates Subjects to the heating process and thermally destroys the bond-reducing coatings. This thermal pretreatment makes the bond strengths even and constant and increased in a way that the cumbersome and costly chemical Cleaning is no longer necessary. Examples r. When diving a steel cable in gave a zo% solution of triphenylmethane triisocyanate in methylene chloride after vulcanizing one Rubber test compound dynamic Bond strengths of r28, go; 118-and-zoö minutes of running time in the dynamic Pull-off testing machine.
A steel cord cleaned in methylene chloride gave dynamic bond strengths of ro5, r22, 95 and 113 minutes running time after immersion in ro0 / 0 triphenylzriethane triosecyanate.
The cleaning of steel cables according to the following process steps: a) boiling in soap solution, b) washing in water, c) cleaning in dilute hydrochloric acid, d) washing in water, e) washing in acetone resulted after drying and immersion the rope in a zo% solution of triphenylmethane triisocyanate dynamic Bond strengths of 138, 142, over 150 and 128 minutes of running time.
q.. The steel cables were heated to 2oo ° without: `prior cleaning. They were then immersed in a 10% strength triphenylmethane triisocyanate solution. After vulcanization of the test mixture, dynamic bond strengths of 127, over = 50, 135 and over 150 minutes of running time were obtained.
