jl Purpose of the invention

&rgr; The aim of the invention is to simplify the cleaning of drawers, thereby making it possible to use drawers made of solid wood and wood materials in areas where increased moisture levels and high hygiene requirements are to be expected. Corners and edges or cracks in which dirt can collect and which make cleaning more difficult should be avoided as far as possible.

In particular, the use of solid wood as a material for drawers should be expanded to areas of application that are currently covered by plastic drawers. The aim is to find a solution that combines the craftsmanship and aesthetic appearance of a solid wood drawer with the ease of care of a plastic drawer.

Notes on the state of the art

At present, the following designs are common:

a. Drawers made of wood and wood-based materials

A variety of wood types such as beech, oak, pine, spruce, ramin etc. and wood materials such as plywood, coated chipboard etc. are used as materials. Depending on the material, the corner connection is made using dowels, finger joints, dovetail joints, springs, mitres or angle springs and angle dowels, folding method. The drawer bottom is usually grooved, but can also be glued on.
These designs all have the disadvantage that a sharp 90° corner is created at the transition between the base and the drawer frame.

Since the floor for installation must be thinner than the width of the groove, there is usually a small gap above the floor. Dirt can easily accumulate in this area, which is difficult to remove and has a negative effect on the appearance. There is also a risk that rinse water runs into the floor groove during cleaning and causes wood damage due to excessive moisture.

Attempts are made to remedy these disadvantages in plastic-coated frames by injecting elastic lips into the base groove, which press the base against the upper edge of the base groove. However, this measure is only effective to a limited extent because the lips give way again when the base is subjected to pressure. The problem of the sharp transition in the base area still exists here.

A newer design with solid wood frames has a bowl made of HPL material that lies on the floor and tapers off on two sides. The cleaning options have already been improved, but only two of the four edges are rounded. The risk of leaking liquid or cleaning water getting into the bottom groove of the drawer and discoloring the wood still exists.

b. Drawers made of plastic and metal

Single-part and multi-part constructions are known. The multi-part constructions are similar to those described under "a". A surrounding frame is used, into which a base is subsequently inserted. The disadvantages are the same as previously described.

In the one-piece constructions, the inner drawer shell is formed by injection molding, deep drawing or similar processes. This allows rounded transitions to be achieved instead of sharp edges. These boxes are generally moisture-resistant and easy to clean. The disadvantages of the usual constructions are their sometimes poor stability and unattractive appearance.

Requirements for the invention

The main aim is to combine the aesthetics of a solid wood drawer with the ease of cleaning of a plastic drawer. It is important to create curves in the interior of the drawer instead of sharp edges. In addition, the surface inside the drawer should also be able to withstand long-term exposure to moisture, such as can occur when a container in the drawer leaks, particularly in kitchen drawers. Another factor to consider is that the construction can be manufactured with reasonable manufacturing effort and at a market-based price.

Solution

The problem was solved as follows:

The sides and the front and back pieces are made of solid wood frames (or wood materials) in the usual way. Finger joints and dowel joints are used as corner connections due to their high strength. Instead of the usual plywood floor, the box has a base shell that is folded all the way around and reinforced by a suitable carrier plate, e.g. a hardboard.

The base tray is formed by deep drawing or injection molding from suitable thermoplastics such as PVC, PS. It has rounded, upwardly drawn edges on all sides. The height of the tray is approx. 12 mm. This means that the attractive wooden surface remains visible inside the box and the tray can hold a considerable amount of liquid, depending on the size of the box, without damaging the wood.

For cost reasons, the thickness of the shell should be kept as low as possible; shells of 1 mm thickness have proven to be effective. The shells are manufactured with an oversize and installed under pre-tension in the already assembled frame. Then a suitable carrier plate, e.g. hardboard with a thickness of 4 - 6 mm, is pushed into a groove under the shell. The shell is thus attached to

the upper edge of the fold is pressed and ends seamlessly with the drawer frame. In order to counteract the tendency of the base shell, which is under tension, to "bulge" - particularly in large box sizes - the shell is glued to the carrier plate using a suitable adhesive. The tendency of plastics to become electrostatically charged is reduced by using an electrically conductive adhesive.

Before the base shell is installed, the frame, if it is made of solid wood or uncoated wood materials, is coated with suitable varnishes, e.g. PUR-based.
This design creates a furniture drawer that is easy to manufacture and is particularly suitable for use in kitchens or laboratories.

The construction allows for various designs, e.g. in relation to the frame profile or the base shell. Different curves can be produced or grained plastic materials can be used. In certain circumstances, it is also possible to install a shell made of V2A material.

Further design options include the use of variable division systems, which enable the orderly storage of cutlery, for example.

It is advisable to guide the drawer in a roller guide, preferably in a concealed guide so as not to affect the appearance.
