The process is generally applicable and allows the production of not only known, but also new alkylene dimercaptodicarboxylic acids. The products of the process can serve as intermediate products or end products for medicinal products or dyes. Be ispiel1 1,000 parts of water and 1,200 parts of caustic soda are stirred with 1,70 parts of ethylenediisotliourea hydrobromide for 1 hour at 80 to 100 °, and then an alcoholic solution of 153 parts of f3-bromopropionic acid in 100 parts of alcohol is added at 20 '. When the entry is complete, it is heated on the water bath for about an hour, then clarified with animal charcoal, the alcohol is distilled off and acidified with hydrochloric acid. The raw product is dissolved in water. Ethylendi- (mercaptopropionic acid) has a melting point of 148 °.
den Schmelzpunkt 24o°.Example e There are 34 parts in 3o parts caustic soda and 100 parts water
Ethylenediisothiourea hydrobromide registered. and at a temperature of about
35 ° one then enters 30 parts of monochloroacetic acid. After registration is complete
is stirred for a further hour and then with cooling with hydrochloric acid until an acidic reaction
offset. Dissolution of the precipitated crude product from a little water. Ethylenedit'hioglycolic acid
melts at 1o8 °. Example 3 202 parts of 3-nitro-4-chlorobenzoic acid are in 100o
Parts of water with 60 parts of caustic soda and 17o parts of ethylene diisothiourea hydrobromide
Stirred at 8o to 9o ° and slowly added 6o parts of caustic soda in zoo parts of water.
After 3 hours it is allowed to cool, the precipitated sodium salt is suctioned off and it is dissolved
in hot water and acidified with hydrochloric acid. The ethylene-1,2-di- (i'-mercapto-2'-nitro-phenvl-4'-carboxylic acid) has
the melting point 24o °.
