Process for the preparation of methaeryl acid amide. It has been found that acetone cyanohydrin can be converted into methacrylic acid amide with good yields in the presence of suitable acids at elevated temperature. The transfer takes place at a temperature of about 100-1400 C, preferably at 110-115 0 C in a short time. It is expedient to use 1.2-2 moles of acid per mole of acetone cyanohydrin. The method can advantageously be carried out using positive pressure.
During production, anticatalyzers such as sulfur, hydroquinone, betanaphthol, tannin, etc. are used to prevent premature polymerisation.
The reaction mixture initially formed is worked up; so the acid can first be replaced by basic substances, e.g. B. calcium hydrogen or barium hydroxide are neutralized. The water is expediently evaporated in vacuo and the residue was extracted with organic solvents such as benzene, petroleum ether, alcohol, etc. and the methacrylic acid amide obtained after evaporation of the solvent. In some threads, the amide largely crystallizes out of the hot solution when it cools.
It is also possible to isolate the amide in some other way, for example the aqueous solution of the reaction mixture formed from acetone cyanohydrin and acid can be extracted with suitable organic solvents. It is here z. B. by choosing a suitable temperature to ensure that no saponification to methacrylic acid takes place.
The D-methacrylic acid amide is obtained in a crystalline, flaky nature with a degree of purity of about 95% and a yield of 80% and more. It shows a melting point of about 95 ° C.
It is soluble in water and in most organic solvents such as: methanol, ethyl alcohol, ethyl acetate, acetone, benzene, petroleum ether, etc. After recrystallizing once from benzene, it shows a melting point of 108 ° C. with a purity of 99.5%. Examples: 1.
In 150 parts of concentrated sulfuric acid of 98-100% and 0.4 parts of sulfur, 88 parts of acetone cyanohydrin are added dropwise with cooling and the mixture is heated to 1150 ° C. for one hour.
After cooling, the viscous reaction mixture is poured onto 500 parts of ice or cold water and the resulting acidic, aqueous solution is neutralized in a concentrated solution of 154 parts of 100% soda. The water is then evaporated and the residue was washed out several times with hot benzene. 68 parts of methacrylic acid amide are obtained as flaky crystalsL 2.
As in Example 1, a reaction mixture of concentrated sulfuric acid and acetone cyanohydrin is first prepared. The thick reaction mixture is treated while avoiding saponification with water and by extraction of the aqueous solution, for. B. obtained with Alethylenehlorid, 141ethacr @ ylsäureamid.
