The invention relates to electrical heating elements for heating
a large surface at low and moderate temperatures. The improved heating element
consists of a continuous length of suitably insulated wire which,
bent in its middle, placed half to half next to one another and in a single one
Lead or lead alloy cladding is included, the latter at the end
is closed, on which the conductor is bent and tightly around the bent
insulated conductor fits so that it forms a flexible unitary part with him.
A single envelope is understood to be such a 2u, which is covered by a single
Ejection operation is generated.
in Fig. i gezeigt, Seite gegen Seite gelegt werden.
An embodiment of the invention is shown for example in the drawings. It shows FIG. 1 a lateral longitudinal view in section, with only the bent end of the cable being shown, FIG. 2 a plan view along line I1-11 in FIG. 1, FIG. 3 cross section along line III-III in FIG In the example shown in the drawings, the complete element has a flattened oval shape in cross section (Fig. 3), consisting of two semicircular ends and flat tangential sides. However, other shapes can also be used, e.g. F3. For example, the heating element may have the shape of a figure 8 or a dumbbell in cross-section, with the two circular ends containing the insulated wires connected by a flat portion of the covered material. Such shapes can be produced by producing the sheathing in a single ejection operation: The element consists of a conductor i provided with a suitable insulation 2 and a lead sheath 3. To manufacture the element, the insulated conductor, which is of suitable length, is divided into two Halves bent over, which, as shown in Fig. I, are placed side against side. The bent insulated conductor is then inserted into a single lead sheath 3. The sheath extends a little beyond the bent end of the insulated conductor, and in order to close this end of the sheath, the remaining space is sealed, e.g. B. by means of asbestos, I, and the remaining opening is closed by 5 solder. To assist in closing the opening, the envelope 3 can be bent slightly inward. after the sealing material has been filled in, in order to 'reduce the area to be closed somewhat. The conductor i is made of a suitable material and of suitable dimensions for generating the heat in the required amount per unit length and is enclosed in an envelope which can withstand the working temperature of the heating element. Insulation consisting entirely or mainly of asbestos is suitable. The envelope is made of common lead or lead alloy so that the element as a whole has a significant degree of flexibility so that it can be bent to conform to any surface on which it is used as a heating element or on which it is supported. In many cases it can be installed in buildings by the means commonly used for fastening surface wire. The element can be manufactured in standard lengths of standard wattage. Suitable connections for the two ends of the conductor can be provided at the open end of the sheath. The improved element is in suitable form for use in many locations where a relatively extensive area of low or moderate temperature is required.
