Process for purifying salts of sulfonic acids During conversion
those obtainable by the action of sulfonating agents on hydrocarbons
Sulphonic acids in salts almost always give products which are obtained in excess by salts
applied sulfonating agent or by for the purpose of salting out the sulfonates
added low-volatility salts are contaminated.
It has now been found that a
strong reduction of the content of inorganic salts in sulfonates achieved,
if one uses the, appropriately concentrated, solutions of the sulfonates, solutions of such
Adds substances that have a salting effect on the sulfonates, but are themselves highly volatile
are. It is so easy to deposit (read the sulfonate as a layer and pass this through
the washing liquid to the desired degree from the non-volatile inorganic
Free salt. Example t A by sulfonating shale oil or distillate
received and with z. B. Ammonia neutralized product that has a high content
of ammonium sulfate is concentrated in solution with a saturated solution of
Mixed ammonium carbonate or ammonium carbonate or solid ammonium carbonate or bicarbonate
added to the solution of the crude sulfonate.
The shale oil sulfonate separates as an upper coherent layer
which are separated from the lower layer and, if necessary, again with ammonium carbonate
or -1> carbonate solution is washed.
By heating the sulfonate mass, the carbonate adhering to it becomes
volatilized and captured in templates. The resulting salt carbonate solution
can
serve to pre-wash new quantities of crude sulfonate in countercurrent, and after exhaustion
their effect on ammonium salts or ammonia can be worked up. You can do that too
Use excess carbonate in the wash liquor to neutralize the crude sulfonic acid.
Example e: A crude sulfonic acid from shale oil distillate is concentrated in
aqueous solution neutralized with ammonia gas and introduced ammonia in excess.
Thereupon or at the same time carbonic acid gas is passed into the solution, whereby
Forms ammonium carbonate or -1> carbonate from the free ammonia and, as in example
i indicated, the deposition of the ammonium salt of the sulfonic acids begins.
