Description
In the German patent specification 133 951 is a method for the production of 4-nitro-i-aminonaphthalene-5-sulfonic acid described. This compound is obtained according to this process by adding i-aminonaphthalene-5-sulfonic acid with a mixture of sulfuric acid and nitric acid at a temperature of 0 to 10 ° nitrided. The product which can be obtained in this way contains troublesome impurities and is therefore used in the patent specification recommended to purify the acid by converting it into the sodium salt. The yield of pure Product is unsatisfactory.
It has now been found that 4-nitro-i-aminonaphthalene-5-sulfonic acid by nitration of 1-aminonaphthalene-5-sulfonic acid obtained directly in practically pure form and in good yield if the nitration is carried out at temperatures below 0 °, performs.
In carrying out the present method it is advantageously followed in which one under cooling, advantageously at a temperature which is not higher than + 5 0, which serves as the starting material I-aminonaphthalene-5-sulfonic acid in concentrated, for example, in anhydrous sulfuric acid dissolves, the resulting solution is cooled to a temperature below ο ° and then so-called mixed acid is allowed to flow in, whereby it is ensured by cooling and correspondingly slow addition of the mixed acid that the temperature does not rise to ο °. For safety reasons, it is advisable to carry out the nitration at a temperature noticeably lower than 0 °, for example at -10 to -8 °
Die Aufarbeitung des Reaktionsgemisches nach be-begin to let the mixed acid flow in and never let the temperature of the reaction mixture rise above -2 ° until the introduction of the mixed acid has ended. (If the nitriding takes place at a temperature which reaches the upper limit of 0 °, the result is already noticeably worsened). Mixed acid is to be understood here as meaning the mixture which consists of concentrated sulfuric acid and concentrated nitric acid. For the nitration according to the present process, a practically anhydrous mixed acid is used with advantage, which z. B. consists of equal parts of nitric acid of the highest concentration and anhydrous sulfuric acid (monohydrate). The theoretically required amount of nitric acid gives very good results in this nitration, and it is therefore advisable not to use any or only a very small excess of nitric acid.
The work-up of the reaction mixture after
B. indem man das Gemisch auf Eis gießt, die ausfallende 4-Nitro-iaminonaphthalin-5-sulfonsäure abfiltriert, sie von der anhaftenden Schwefelsäure durch Auswaschen mit konzentrierter Natriumchloridlösung befreit und das so erhältliche, praktisch reine Produkt trocknet.ao-ended nitration can according to customary, known per se Methods take place, e.g. B. by pouring the mixture on ice, the precipitating 4-nitro-iaminonaphthalene-5-sulfonic acid filtered off, freed from the adhering sulfuric acid by washing with concentrated sodium chloride solution and that so obtainable, practically pure product dries.
It is surprising that in the present case, where the known, at temperatures above 0 ° the nitration to be carried out results in an impure product, the nitration at only a little lower temperature, namely below 0 °, easily delivers a practically pure product.
The following example serves to explain the invention without restricting it. Included As in the previous text, the parts mean parts by weight, the percentages are percentages by weight, and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
The solution is cooled to -10 to -8 ° C and about oo, then added dropwise a mixture of 31.5 parts 0/0 nitric acid and 31.5 parts ioo 0 / cent sulfuric acid within about one hour, maintaining the temperature by cooling at - 2 ° is held. The nitration is complete 15 to 30 minutes after the end of the addition of the acid mixture. Then or after standing for a while, the reaction mixture is poured onto about 2000 parts of ice, the 4-nitro-i-aminonaphthalene-5-sulfonic acid formed precipitating in the form of small yellow crystals. It is filtered off, freed from mineral acid by washing with concentrated sodium chloride solution and can, for. B. in a vacuum, dried. A practically pure product is obtained in a very good yield (90% of theory or a little more).
