Die zur Herstellung der Fäden verwendeten Glasarten sind solche gewöhnlicher Art, d. h. also mit einem Schmelzpunkt etwa um 60o° C herum. Da die Flammentemperatur der zum Beheizen der Auer-Glühkörper verwendeten Bunsenflamme etwa 1700 bis 180o° beträgt, und da diese Flamme in allernächster Nähe der Anb-indestelle am Mundstück oder Tragring liegt, so wäre von vornherein damit zu rechnen gewesen., daß die Flammenhitze den Glasfaden schmelzen würde. Versuche haben jedoch gezeigt, daß diese Annahme irrig ist, und zwar aus zwei Gründen: i. Das Mundstück, und zwar gerade bei dem mit besonders hoher Flammentemperatur arbeitenden Preßglasbrenner für Gas oder flüssige Brennstoffe, wird durch den im Innern des Mundstückes befindlichen Gas-Luft-Gemischstrom sehr wirksam gekühlt. a.
