Process for the preparation of 1-methyl-4-oxy-5-amino (or 4-amino-5-oxy) -naphthafn-11-sulfonic acid It has been found that i-methyl-4-oxy-5-amino (or 4-amino-5-oxy) naphthalene-il-sulfonic acid can be produced in a technically simple manner and with very good yields if one uses il-chloro-i-methyl-5-nitronaphthalene, which is obtained, for example, according to patent 7i_2897 by the action of formaldehyde and hydrochloric acid on i- 'nitronaphthalene in the presence of condensing agents can, brings strong nitric acid, preferably in the presence of inert solvents, to the action, the resulting il-chloro-i-methyl-4 5- dinitronaphthal.in by treatment with sodium sulfite in the i-methyl-4,5-dinitronaphthalene-il-sulfonic acid , the two nitro groups are reduced to amino groups in a known manner and the diamino compound now obtained is boiled either directly or in the presence of acetone with sodium bisulfite solution.
verhalten
würde. Offenbar ist sie hier wesentlich labiler
als am Benzolkern, leas daraus hervorgeht,
da]-") man zwar p-\ itrobenzylehlorid finit Sal-

iiitrobenzylchlorid weiternitrieren kann, nicht
aber il-Clilor-i-metliyl-5-nitroilaplltlialin, das
unter Abspaltung von Salzsäure zersetzt wird.
Es ist überraschend, wenn inan die Reaktion
bei der Behandlung von il-Clilor-i-inetliyl-
5-iiitronaphtlialin mit starker Salpetersäure,
vorztigsiveise bei Ge-enwart voll Lösungsmit-
teln, wie z. D. Tetrachlorkohlenstoff, so leiten
kann, daß in vorzüglichen Ausbeuten ein ein-
heitliches Dinitroprodukt entstellt, zumal bei
der bleichen Behandlung von il-Clllor-i-nie-
thylnaphthalin ein technisch nicht trennbares
öliges Isoinerengemisch anfällt.
Das in vorzüglicherkeinheit anfallende, bis-
her unbekannte il-Chlor-i-metllyl-.I, 5-dinitro-
naphthalin wird durch Behandeln mit \Tatriunl-
sulfit in die i-Methyl-d, 5-dillitronaphthalin-
ii-sulfonsäure übergeführt, die sich leicht zu
der entsprechenden Diaminoverbindurig re-
duzieren läßt. Verkocht man nun diese Amino-
säure mit 2#,atriumhisulfitlösung, so entstellt
bei Abwesenheit von Aceton die i-Methyl-
5-amino-d.-oxynaphtllalin-il-sulfonsäure und
bei Anwesenheit von Aceton die i-Methyl-
d.-amino-5-oxynaphtllaliil-i 1-sulfoiisäur e. D iese
beiden in sehr guter Ausbeute anfallenden
dung überzuführen, was bei der i, S-Napll-

lich ist.
