Process for the preparation of a new Dioaypyrene. In Swiss Patent No. 187123, the production of oxypyrene derivatives is described, which are obtained by allowing the pyrene-3,5,8,10-tetrasulfonic acid or its functional derivatives to act with strongly alkaline agents. As a result, depending on the reaction conditions, the sulphonic acid groups are wholly or partly replaced by hydroxyl groups.
In a continuation of this inventive concept, the surprising observation was made that the dioxypyrenedisulfonic acid obtainable by alkali melting of 3,5,8,10-pyreritetrasulfonic acid can easily be converted in a manner known per se, for example by heating with dilute acids can split off both sulfonic acid groups.
In this way, a new dioxypyrene is obtained in excellent yield, which probably has the constitution of a 3,5-dioxypyrene, since it is not identical to the previously known 3,8- and 3,10-dioxypyrene.
The now easily accessible 3,5-dioxypyrene is a very valuable intermediate product. Example .T 150 parts of the uniform sodium dioxy-pyrene disulfonic acid obtainable according to Swiss patent no. 192480 are mixed with about 1400 parts of water and 275 parts of concentrated sulfuric acid to about 12 Heated to 130-140 'for hours.
In this way, a new dioxypyrene is obtained in an almost quantitative yield, which separates out as a crystal mass and is practically pure after washing with acid. If necessary, the dioxypyrene obtained in this way can still be purified by dissolving it from organic solvents.
This new compound is probably 3,5-dioxypyrene; its diacetyl compound melts at 1550 and is not identical to the diacetyl compounds of 3,8-dioxypyrene (F. 223-225 ') and 3,10-dioxypyrene (F. 188-1900).
The dioxypyrenedisulfonic acid obtainable according to Swiss patent no. 192480 is then 3,5-dioxypyrene-8.10-disulfonic acid. Example 2: 150 parts of sodium dioxypyrendisulfonate are heated to 2000 with 1500 parts of water in a car for 24 hours. The measured pH of the solution was before heating 6.3 after 1.0. The precipitated dioxypyrene is filtered off with suction and washed acid-free. Quantitative yield. The product obtained is identical to that prepared according to Example 1.
