wirkender Stoffe zuzusetzen.Process for the hydropholization of cellulose or cellulose hydrate textiles

Beispiel i Man behandelt i o Teile Baumwollgewebe 15 Minuten lang in .einem
Luftstrom rasch getrocknet und i Stunde lang auf i io' erhitzt.Cellulose soil has already been made hydrophobic by treating it with chlorides of higher molecular weight fatty acids in the presence of pyridine. Furthermore, it is also known to make cellulose derivatives hydrophobic with isatoic anhydride or its derivatives or related compounds. From this, however, it was not to be inferred that: it would be possible to achieve a particularly good refinement of the material to be treated with the particular derivatives of isatoic anhydride to be used in the new process, especially since, because of the presence of a higher molecular weight aliphatic residue, the conversion capacity of the isatoic anhydrides was not possible had to be considered sufficiently for the reaction with the cellulose. Precisely because of the known inertness of higher molecular weight acid anhydrides, fatty acid chlorides have been used for the reaction with the cellulose in the known process mentioned first. When using acid chlorides, however, the use of basic solvents, such as pyridine, is necessary, while any other solvents can also be used in the present process, which is particularly advantageous when treating mixed fabrics which contain alkali-sensitive fibers. The finally already known use of fatty acid anhydrides for fiber treatment has, in addition to the mentioned disadvantage of the inertia of the acid anhydrides, the disadvantage that one has to use much larger amounts of the acid anhydrides than in the present invention, because of the anhydrides only one of the two fatty acid residues for the Esterification is exploited. Apart from this, treatment with the specific derivatives of isatoic anhydride can achieve a significantly higher level of water tightness compared to the use of the anhydrides of higher fatty acids. This advantage is particularly evident after washing the treated fabric. EXAMPLE 1 100 parts of cotton fabric are treated for 5 minutes in a bath of 100 parts of alcohol and 4 parts of sodium hydroxide solution, then it is impregnated with a solution of 2 parts of N-octodec5-lisatoic anhydride in 100 parts of carbon tetraclilocarbon. After 5 minutes the fabric is taken out, dried and heated to 100% for 2 hours. This treatment gives it a pleasant feel, is not wetted by water and its other properties are not adversely affected. EXAMPLE Eio parts of undyed cotton fabric are placed in a solution of parts of N-octodecylisatoic anhydride ili oo parts of carbon tetrachloride to which a little sodium ethylate has been added for 5 minutes; the material is then quickly dried in a stream of cold air and heated to io 'for one hour.
If the finished cotton fabric is now placed in an acidic bath,
which contains the diazo compound of p-nitroaniline and with a wetting agent such as
the sodium salt of an isopropylated naphthalenesulfonic acid, longer
Time moved, then rinsed thoroughly in hot water and dried, so shows
In addition to a pleasant feel and water repellency, it is also a washable,
bright orange color.
