Am Boden 14 ist die Haube 40 an der Stelle 48 nicht transparent, was z. B. durch Siebdruck auf der Innenseite der Haube erreicht wird, so daß der Boden 14 und der Unterbau 26 verdeckt sind. Die Waren können durch Leuchstoffröhren 50 beleuchtet werden, die sich unter der Leiste 46 befinden. Die Waren können auch durch Leuchstoffröhren 52 beleuchtet werden, die sich unter der Haube an den oberen Rändern 54 der Wände 12 befinden. Die Leuchstoffröhren 50 und 52 und die Ränder 54 sind durch die Haube 40 verdeckt, die an der Stelle 56 nicht transparent ist. Claims

1. A refrigerator or freezer comprising: a container (10) with side walls (12) and a base (14) for storing goods (18) through a horizontal access opening of the container, a frame which extends around the upper edges (54) of the side walls, characterized in that the frame is formed from a hood (40; 60; 80) which has the access opening (44; 64; 44), the hood being made in one piece, extending over the container (10) and extending continuously around and above the upper edges (54).

2. Chest according to claim 1, characterized in that the hood (80) ends at its lower part with an edge (82) which is at substantially the same height as the upper edges (54) of the side walls (10).

3. Chest according to claim 1, characterized in that the hood (40) has a part (47) which extends downwards to below the container (10) in order to protect a device (28, 30) for cooling the goods, the device being located below the container.

4. Chest according to one of the preceding claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the hood (40; 80) has two openings (44) for access to the goods.

5. Chest according to one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that one or more fluorescent tubes (52) are located under the hood at the upper edges (54) of the side walls.

6. Chest according to claim 4, characterized in that one or more fluorescent tubes (50) are located under the part (46) of the hood which separates the two openings (44).
