Description
The present invention relates to a dishwashing method and a dishwasher for carrying out this method.
Known dishwashers usually offer a choice of several predefined operating programs, for example a program for fragile or delicate dishes, a program for only slightly soiled dishes, a program for heavily soiled dishes. The cleaning result for dishes in these dishwashers depends on the precise assessment of the degree of soiling and the choice of operating program. To improve the cleaning result, some dishwashers contain, in addition to a filter for coarse and medium-sized dirt particles, a microfilter for small dirt particles that often contaminate the washed and rinsed dishes. In some other known dishwashers, the microfiltration is accompanied from time to time by short pumping or micropumping through the microfilter, so that the microfilter is cleaned and freed from the dirt particles that have gathered on its surface. This microfiltration and the micropumping are fixed in the predefined operating programs of these known dishwashers. The selected washing program, however, always remains the same, regardless of how badly the microfilter is soiled or clogged by the dirt particles, which depends on the degree of soiling of the dishes. It follows that the operating program is often poorly adapted to the washing of a given type of crockery in this appliance. Despite the micro-filtration and the micro-pumping to remove the dirt, a poor assessment of the degree of soiling of the crockery to be washed and a poor choice of an operating program for washing this crockery always lead to a poor cleaning result. In fact, if the degree of soiling of the micro-filter during the operation of the dishwasher is high, which generally corresponds to heavily soiled dishes, and if the operating program selected is a program designed for lightly soiled dishes, then naturally an unsatisfactory cleaning result for these dishes will be obtained. If the degree of soiling of the microfilter during operation of the dishwasher is low, which generally corresponds to lightly soiled dishes, and if the operating program selected is a program designed for heavily soiled dishes, then although a satisfactory cleaning result for these dishes will be obtained, a lot of water and energy will be wasted, since cleaning lightly soiled dishes does not have to take as long and do not have to provide for as many cleaning and rinsing baths as a program for heavily soiled dishes.
In some publications, such as European patent application 255 863 by Licentia or American patent 4 673 441 by F. Mayers, it is proposed to take pressure measurements in the first or first baths of the cleaning cycle and to use these to derive measurements of the degree of soiling of the dishes and thus the cleaning program to be started. However, measurements taken at the start of the cycle may not correspond to the actual degree of soiling of the dishes, since some soiling only comes off the dishes after several baths. In addition, once a program has been started, it is no longer possible to control it.
The present invention aims to avoid these disadvantages and provides a method of washing dishes which can not only identify the degree of soiling of the dishes in order to clean the microfilter, but can also replace the current operating program with another program better adapted to the identified degree of soiling of the dishes in order to automatically achieve an excellent To achieve cleaning results at lower costs.
The invention also relates to a dishwasher that uses this method.
According to the invention, a method for washing dishes in a dishwasher with a washing or rinsing liquid that is heated and circulated and whose dirt particles are retained by filters and/or microfilters, the degree of soiling of the dishes being determined based on physical data of the washing or rinsing liquid at the level of the microfilter and/or filter, such as the pressure of the liquid at the level of the filters and/or microfilters and the liquid flow rate through the microfilters during the execution of a predetermined operating program for an estimated degree of soiling of the dishes, characterized in that in order to optimize the operation and to adapt to the degree of soiling of the dishes during the entire program sequence, the degree of soiling is identified in several baths of each program and the predetermined program is exchanged for another predetermined program if the identified degree of soiling differs from the previously identified degree of soiling.
In order to better understand the invention, some embodiments are explained below using the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 shows partially and schematically a dishwasher for carrying out the method according to the invention, which has a waste water pump rotating in both directions.
Figure 2 shows schematically and partially a variant of the dishwasher in Figure 1, in which a waste water pump with only one pumping direction is provided.
According to Figure 1, a dishwasher 1 contains an inner container 2 and an outer housing 3. A lower dish basket 4, an upper dish basket 5, a lower wetting arm 6 and an upper wetting arm 7 are mounted in the container 2. In the lower container area, on a base of the Container 10 is provided with a circulation pump 11 which has a guide channel for water 12 to the lower wetting arm 6, a waste water pump 17 with two directions of rotation, an inlet collector 18 for the waste water pump 17, a waste water line 19 with a one-way valve 21 behind the waste water pump 11, a filter 15 for coarse and medium-sized dirt particles and a microfilter 16 for small dirt particles which is connected to the inlet collector 18 of the waste water pump 17 via a connecting line 20.
The cleaning or rinsing liquid is heated by electrical resistances 8 arranged near the bottom 10 of the tank 2. The other components and accessories of the dishwasher 1 are known per se and have not been shown.
When the dishwasher 1 is operating, the circulation pump 11 operates and sends cleaning or rinsing liquid to the wetting arms 6 and 7, which spray the dishes placed in the baskets 4 and 5. The liquid, laden with dirt particles, dripping from the dishes passes through the filter 15, which retains the coarse and medium-sized impurities, before it can enter the circulation pump 11 again to complete a new cycle. During this time, the waste pump 17 rotates in a direction called the microfiltration direction and, parallel to the circulation pump 11, sucks in liquid that has been filtered by the filter 15 and may still contain fine dirt particles. This liquid is forced into the inlet collector 18, where a part of this liquid flow enters the connecting line 20, passes through the microfilter 16 and then returns to the tank area 2 above the filter 15, while the remaining flow of this liquid, which is guided by the inlet collector 18, passes through the filter 15 and is also fed back into the area of the tank 2 above this filter 15. The microfilter 16 retains fine dirt particles and gradually cleans the washing or rinsing liquid.
The amount of dirt collected by the filters 15 and microfilters 16 is a measure of the soiling of the dishes.
Contamination of the filter 15 and the microfilter 16 leads to a reduction in the flow rate of liquid through these filters and microfilters and to an increase in the pressure of the liquid, in particular at the level of the microfilter.
Therefore, the pressure and/or the flow rate of the cleaning or rinsing liquid at the level of these filters 15 and/or microfilters 16 are a good measure of the soiling of the dishes.
According to the invention, a method for washing dishes in a dishwasher containing a heated and circulated washing liquid, the soiling of which is captured by filters and/or microfilters, comprises, on the one hand, identifying the degree of soiling of the dishes based on the physical data of the washing or rinsing liquid at the level of the microfilters and/or filters, such as the liquid pressures at the level of these filters and/or microfilters and the flow rate of liquid through these microfilters during the course of an operating program, and, on the other hand, changing this operating program depending on the identified degree of soiling of the dishes.
A dishwasher operating program specified for a given degree of soiling of the dishes usually contains a wash cycle and a rinse cycle, possibly preceded by a pre-wash cycle, with the number of baths, the temperatures of the baths and the duration of the baths being specified.
As soon as the degree of soiling of the dishes is identified, according to the method according to the invention, the operation of the dishwasher changes automatically and a predetermined program is selected for a given degree of soiling of the dishes, which corresponds to the identified degree of soiling of the dishes. For a high degree of soiling of the dishes, the operating programme may include a pre-wash cycle and, in general, in the washing and rinsing cycles, a relatively large number of individual baths, a relatively high temperature of the baths (within permissible limits) and a long exposure time of the baths.
If the degree of soiling of the dishes is low, then the operating program can manage without a pre-wash cycle and generally uses a relatively small number of baths, low water temperatures and a short exposure time of the baths in the wash and rinse cycles.
In the rinsing machine 1, short cleaning phases for the microfilter 16 are provided from time to time in the operating program, which are called microfilter cleanings and are carried out by rotating the waste water pump 17 in a draining direction, during which the liquid in the inlet collector 18 is sucked in by the pump 17 and discharged to the outside through the waste water line 19. A negative pressure is thus generated in the microfilter 16 and cleaning liquid flows through the microfilter 16 from the container 2 to the inlet collector 18, loosening the fine dirt particles that have deposited on the surface of the microfilter 16 and taking them to the waste water pump 17, which discharges them to the outside.
If the soiling is significant and strongly adheres to the dishes, then these soilings will be removed from the dishes relatively late after the start of the washing program of the dishwasher 1. A single and premature identification of the degree of soiling of the dishes is then not sufficient to determine a good choice of a washing program for the dishwasher 1.
According to the invention, the washing method comprises identifying the degree of soiling of the dishes in several baths of each operating program, and then changing predetermined operating programs of the dishwasher depending on the successively identified degrees of soiling of the dishes.
The dishwasher's operation is therefore always optimal and adapted to the degree of soiling of the dishes.
The rinsing process also includes a change of the dishwasher’s operating program depending on the degree of soiling of the laundry identified in the last of the baths.
In the example shown, the dishwasher, which carries out the method according to the invention, contains, on the one hand, a measuring probe for physical quantities of the washing or rinsing liquid, which reflects the degree of soiling of the dishes 22. The measuring probe is a pressure measuring probe or a probe for measuring the throughput of the liquid flow at the level of the filters 15 and/or microfilters 16. On the other hand, the dishwasher according to the invention contains a program part 24 with several predetermined operating programs for degrees of soiling of the dishes within predetermined limits, one of these predetermined operating programs being carried out, which corresponds to the data on the soiling of the dishes recorded by the measuring probe 22.
The pressure measuring probes and the flow measuring probes, which are intended to determine the data relating to the degree of soiling of the dishes 22, and the programming part 24 are devices of a known type and are not described in detail below.
During cleaning of the microfilter 16, the waste water pump 17 rotates in a cleaning direction so that the washing or rinsing liquid is sucked in by both the microfilter 16 and the filter 15 in the inlet collector 18 and pumped out by the pump 17 via the waste water line 19. During each microfilter cleaning, a predetermined amount of washing or rinsing liquid is lost. Of this lost amount of washing or rinsing liquid, only a portion is used to clean or purify the microfilter 16, while the remaining amount of liquid is to be considered as pure loss.
In order to overcome this disadvantage, according to the invention, in the inlet manifold 18 of the drain pump 17 of the dishwasher 1, the space in which the pipe 20 is located and which leads to the microfilter 16 is separated from the space leading to the filter 15 by a passage control device 26 which controls the passage during microfiltration of the impurities by the microfilter 16 and during microfilter cleaning in order to limit the loss of liquid to the amount of liquid which passes through the microfilter 16 for cleaning it.
The device 26 for controlling the passage is an electrovalve, a flap arrangement controlled by a relay, for example an electromagnetic relay, a thermal relay or an equivalent arrangement of known type which performs the same task.
In a variant shown schematically and partially in Figure 2, the dishwasher 1 contains, in addition to the analogous elements provided with the same reference numerals as in Figure 1, a waste water pump 30 which only rotates in one direction and which, during pumping, sucks in washing or rinsing liquid through the microfilter 16 and a sink 36 of the filter 15 in the inlet collector 18 and discharges it to the outside through a waste water line 31 with a non-return valve 32. During a washing or rinsing process, a portion of the liquid pumped by the circulation pump 11 is diverted from a branch line 33 in the inlet collector 18 to be directed into the microfilter 16 for its microfiltration, the flap 26 being closed and the branch line 33 being connected to the water supply line 12 of the pump 11 or directly to a point (not shown) of the pump housing on the pressure side of the pump 11.
A fluid pressure limiting valve 35 is mounted in the inlet manifold 18 and is set to open at a pressure value below a given fluid column in a drain line 31 to prevent any overflow of liquid through said drain line 31 during microfiltration of the impurities and any excess liquid pressure compromising the microfilter 16 and the effectiveness of the washing operation. In this variant, the passage control arrangement 26 is closed during microfiltration of the impurities in order to direct all the liquid collected to the microfilter 16 and during microfilter cleaning in order to prevent any unnecessary loss of liquid, while the arrangement 26 is open during draining of the dishwasher in order to rapidly remove from the tank the washing or rinsing liquid, part of which passes through the microfilter 16 to clean it.
