Verfahren zur Darstellung von 1-Alkyl-1-arylbutadienen-1, 3 aus substituierten
1-Halogenbutenen-3 i -Alkyl- i -azylbutadiene- i, 3 vom Typus Ar (# Alk) C : C H
Process for the preparation of 1-alkyl-1-arylbutadienes-1, 3 from substituted

Alcohols Alk (Ar): C (O H) # C H2. # C H: represent C H2 by elimination of water.
Attempt this reaction with the help of aluminum oxide, aluminum phosphate, zinc chloride
or to bring about sulfuric acid at suitable temperatures, taught that although
Partly water elimination occurred, but that this did not in the sense of the formation of a
Dien with conjugated double bond took place. This emerged from the fact that the
resulting products of the Diels diene synthesis z. B. with acrolein or acrylic acid
were not accessible.
Diene in lohnender Ausbeute liefern würden. Now in the literature (Annales de Chemie et de Physique, B. series,

regarded as a simple transfer of an already known method to higher homologs
because the conversion of i-bromobutene-3 only allows one possible reaction,
while the compounds used also contain isomeric dienes with a different storage
the second double bond can occur. But these are with regard to the
Purpose, the diene synthesis, completely worthless. The. low yields of
at best 50% show that the structural conditions for the formation of conjugated

By-products arise. The experiments mentioned at the beginning also confirm that the
i-Alleyl-i-aryli-alkylcarbinols have no particular tendency to transition into the associated
Possess dienes with conjugation. It was therefore not to be expected from the outset that
that the i-alkyl-i-aryl-i-halobutenes or the corresponding carbinols are capable of addition

Furthermore, Mazu.rewits, ch (C igi4, I 1999) has a process for obtaining i-methyl-i- [2 ', 4' and 2, 5'-dimethylphenylbutadiene described, according to which these compounds from the Methylxylylallylcarbinolen via the corresponding chlorides by heating the latter with pyridine in the containment tube. This and a second process mentioned by Mazurewits-ch ibid, according to which these hydrocarbons are also formed by heating the carbinols with acetic anhydride =, however, produce such a poor yield, 4 @, that they are practically unusable because the long reaction time at higher pressure Temperature causes almost complete polymerization of the dienes.

These consist of a mixture of carbinol, conjugated diene and non-conjugated diene and, when heated with acrolein, produce the expected adducts. Yields of about 20 to 50/0 of conjugated diene are obtained. The procedure does not go into. Modify the way that the alkylarylhalogen hats are passed in vapor form over heated alkali, since these compounds - cannot be distilled under normal or reduced pressure. The dienes mentioned or their adducts are intended to serve for the construction of phenanthrenes with angular alkyl groups, which are of pharmacological importance both with regard to the sterols and the alkaloids of the morphine group. Example i r-Methyl-i-phenylbutadiene. Methylallylphenylchloromethane is slowly added dropwise to a distillation vessel filled with crushed caustic alkali. This is done by heating the vessel to -20 to 2.6 ° and evaluating to a pressure of 40 to 60 mm. At the rate of the dropping, a colorless liquid "clouded by water", which contains the 14th desired diene, is then distilled over suitable agents (calcium chloride, sodium
