Description
Apparatus for excavating an endless ribbon of glass The invention relates to on devices for the uninterrupted vertical excavation of glass strips from the free surface of a glass melt, in which the pulling container or Pull hearth in which the excavation takes place, with one of its ends with the melting container communicates. The invention particularly relates to devices of these Kinds in which a pull pot is used in the pull stove, which is in the glass melt immersed, and the edges of which extend beyond the melt. The draw pot is wider provided with a cross rib that serves to define the draw line, and he has slot-shaped openings in its bottom on either side of the transverse rib in order to to allow the glass to flow freely from the melt into the draw pot.
The aim of the invention is, in drawing pots, the rib of which is transverse to the direction of flow of the glass from the melting container are in the drawing hearth, the glass which is used for Formation of the endless glass ribbon is used on both sides of the drawing line on one to keep the temperature as uniform as possible. In fact, the pull container receives its heat mainly from the melting vessel, which is on one side of the drawing vessel is arranged so that in the drawing container at the end adjacent to the melting container a temperature drop occurs until its other end. It follows from this that in a pull container provided with a pull pot of the type mentioned in the Glass entering the draw pot on the side of the draw pot facing the melting pot or cross rib is hotter than the glass on the other side of the cross rib enters the pot. This results in tension in the glass ribbon, which leads to throwing or even cause the glass ribbon to break.
According to. the invention is based on the melt container facing Side the slit-shaped opening for the flow of the glass further into the pot away from the cross rib than the opening on the other side.
Also lies to the temperatures of the on both sides of the drawing line The surface of the bottom of the pot can be even better compensated for the incoming glass in the part of the drawing pot that is on the side facing the melting container of the transverse rib is closer below the surface of the melt than on the other Side of the Transverse rib. The opening for the access of the glass to the The pot on the side facing the melting container can also be narrower than the opening on the other side.
The drawing represents an embodiment of the subject matter of the invention , namely Fig. i illustrates the arrangement of the draw pot in a vertical section in the draw tank; Fig. 2 shows a second embodiment of the pull pot in diagrammatic representation, and Figure 3 is a vertical section through the draw pot according to this embodiment.
In Fig. I, i denotes a drawing vessel or forehearth, .der connected at its left end to an unillustrated melting vessel is. This drawing container i is partially refractory in its upper part Blocks 2, 2 covered, and a wall 3 submerged in the pull-up container goes in known way across the drawing container.
In the draw container q. the draw pot 5 is arranged, which lies transversely to the container, ie so that its rib 6 lies transversely to the glass flow in the container. The upper edge 7 of the drawing rib determines the drawing line of the glass ribbon B. The pot 5 is delimited by side walls 9, 9, which protrude slightly beyond the surface of the molten glass. In the bottom of the pot 6 elongated slot-shaped openings io and ii are provided on both sides of the rib, which run parallel to the rib 6 and extend essentially over the entire length of the pot. These openings io, ii allow the glass to flow out of the molten bath q. to flow freely into the drawing pot, so that the glass which has been removed by the drawing is replaced by glass which is made from the mass of the glass melt. below the pot 5 through the above-mentioned openings - enters above.
According to the invention is to be the same temperature of the on the two Sides of the rib 6 for the formation of the ribbon of glass to secure the inflowing glass Opening io for the entry of the glass into the pot 5 on the melting container facing side, i.e. on the left side in Fig. i, further from the rib .6 removed than the other opening i i for the access of the glass. The one in the pot 5 glass stream entering through opening i o must therefore travel a longer path than the glass flow which enters through the opening i i, so that the former flow can cool down more before it gets to the draw point than the second, so that the two streams at the tip 7 of the rib 6, that is to say at the drawing line, essentially arrive at the same temperature.
The surface of the bottom of the pot can also be used for the same purpose in the part next to the melting container, i.e. on the left Side in Fig. I, approach the surface of the weld pool more, i.e. place it higher than in the part farther away from the melting vessel. The desired cooling can then apply better to the glass flow that enters through the opening io do. Finally, you can also use the opening io, which is the melting container initially located, make it narrower than the opening i i, which is on the opposite Side is so that the opening io allows a smaller amount of glass to pass through than the opening i i.
Fig. 2 shows a modified embodiment of the drawing pot, in which the pot no longer consists of a single piece, but of three parts 12, 13, i4 .. The connecting lines of these pieces go through the openings io, ii. The abutting edges interlock with tongue and groove. A pull pot of this type is easier to handle than a one-piece pot, and it is less prone to tearing during manufacture. It also allows the size of the slots or inlet openings for the glass in the bottom of the pot to be controlled. This is done, as can be seen from Fig. 3, by using spacers 15 and 16 in the form of refractory parts which are inserted to regulate the width of the slots io and ir for the entry of the glass into the pot. It is difficult to determine the exact widths of the slots io and ii in advance, this must be done by experiment, and the use of spacers i5, 16 allows the necessary control to be effected during operation without having to change the draw pot.
