Mit Hilfe dieses Verfahrens ist die vereinte pharmazeutische Anwendung von quaternären Ammoniumsalzen mit Schwermetallsalzen, beispielsweise mit Silbersalzen, möglich. Während bekanntlich die Chloride und Sulfate der quaternären Ammoniumbasen nicht gleichzeitig mit Silbersalzen anwendbar sind wegen der Entstehung von unlöslichen Silbersalzen, lassen sich mit Hilfe der Bicarbonate leicht komplexe Silberverbindungen der Ammoniumsalze darstellen. Das zweite obenerwähnte Verfahren besitzt ebenfalls erhebliche Nachteile, die in der schwierigen Herstellung der freien Acridiniumbasen liegen.
