Description
Process for the production of plastic masses from coal-like fuels The invention relates to a method for producing plastic masses from coal-like Fuels, such as lignite, coal and peat, and the essence of the invention consists Mainly in the fact that the coal-rich fuels o. The like. With phenols or phenol-containing mixtures at temperatures below the decomposition temperature of the Coal can be chemically reacted. In this way plastic masses are obtained from which the phenols cannot easily be extracted with solvents. These plastic masses can be compressed under pressure, possibly in the heat will.
It has already been proposed to use plastic masses . to manufacture from lignite or peat; in the process, these carbonaceous substances become but not directly with phenols as such, but become first isolate the humic acids from it. These are then said to be with ketones or aldehydes be treated further with the addition of phenols. Essential for this is known The process primarily involves treating humic acids with ketones or aldehydes. In contrast, for the present invention, @es depends on the use of ketones or aldehydes is unnecessary, and the processing of the starting materials pursued only with phenols. The use of the otherwise for the production of plastic Masses using phenol. usual. So ketones and aldehydes are saved here.
It has also been suggested that humic acid be processed with pyrogallol. But even in this case it is only a question of processing the previously isolated types Hydrous acids, not to be processed directly from the carbonaceous acids they contain Fuels. In addition, one should by the known method through the processing of the humic acids with pyrogallol contain water-soluble substances, i.e. not plastic ones Crowds.
It has already been suggested that coal be digested by extracting it with high-boiling coal tar oils at reduced, normal or increased pressure at temperatures above 300 °. Franz Fischer, Broche and Strauch in "Fuel-Chemistry" 1925, p. 33, as well as _H o 1-royd and Wheeler in "Fuel" [1930], p. 114). Such high temperatures are used for the process The present invention, however, is not in question. Apart from this, however, the known method is intended to separate the extracts formed by treating the coal-like fuels with the high-boiling coal tar oils from the undissolved constituents. The bituminous substances that have gone into solution should then either used together with the solvent for liquid fuels or, after separation of the solvent, instead of pitch ; Asphalt or the like and are used for the same purposes as these substances, while the residue left undissolved during the extraction of the coal is to be used as fuel or for road construction purposes in place of asphalt. In this known method, it is a matter of separating the constituents that are soluble in coal tar oils at temperatures above 300 ° from the insoluble constituents and of using each of these separately. Components for themselves. It was not recognized, however, that by treating coal-like fuels with phenols at lower temperatures one obtains plastic masses which as such, i.e. without any separation of any solid constituents, are processed into pressed bodies of various kinds for industrial purposes can.
. When carrying out the new method, the reaction between the Phenols and the coblike fuel = en @ by adding condensation agents be funded. Relatively small additions of acidic agents have proven to be such as hydrochloric acid; proven beneficial. You can also do the production the plastic masses in the heat, possibly 1. under pressure, - cause :. Instead of Phenols can also be used, and there can be, phenol-based mixtures furthermore, in the Wieise itself, fillers and plasticizers or flow agents can be added. . Embodiment i -Powdered Rhenish lignite is stirred for a few hours with excess tricresol in the vicinity of 180 °. Then it becomes: in a vacuum the largest part. of the T4 .; cresols distilled off. If on a If a plastic mass free of unbound phenol is valued, one also follows Wash out the distillation residue with benzene. The remaining mass leaves For example, at pressures of 150 kg per square centimeter, the temperature is around the same -Press from i8o ° into almost unbreakable pieces. Embodiment 2 powder-coated Hard coal is mixed with so much cresol that it can be stirred well and then stirred for 3 hours at 80 °. After cooling, it is washed out with Beuaol, the residue is then dried in vacuo and used for the production of compacts. In contrast to the easily fragile pneumatic bodies made from hard coal powder can be inherited by pressing the plastic masses here extraordinarily get solid structures.
In order to achieve a uniform impregnation of the hard coal powder with cresol , instead of an excess of cresol it is also possible to use a solution of cresol in a solvent, for example in benzene.
