PATENTAMTPATENT OFFICE
The production of artificial stone mass from chlorine magnesium bezw. other magnesium salts and burnt magnesite are known; the stones of this type shown so far, however, suffer from various defects, of which so-called blooming (appearance of magnesium chloride etc. on the surface) and the inadequate resistance of the stones to moisture and weathering, that Crumbly and brittle ones are to be emphasized. The causes of some of these defects seem to lie in the fact that the commercially available magnesium chloride and so on are involved foreign salts is contaminated, which are a hindrance to an intimate connection of the mass and affect the strength. Means the procedure described below will be Stones produced, which do not show the above defects, but in terms of strength and Completely satisfy weather resistance.
For the purpose of purification, raw magnesium chloride is first dissolved in water and then the contaminating metals (iron, calcium, etc.) are precipitated by means of any precipitating agent (silicic acid soda or potash, carbonate soda or potash, etc.). Through this precipitation: one part is simultaneously depressed the magnesium medium. The resulting magnesium precipitate ripens down the foreign metals with it and settles well. In this way, a chloromagnesium liquor containing sodium chloride, potassium chloride, etc. is obtained, which, by bypassing the evaporation, achieves a stone mass which solidifies in a short time with burnt magnesite; the same thing satisfies all of the above requirements. (Blooming, etc., should be prevented by the fact that the alkali chlorides, which are present in the stone produced, form double compounds with the magnesium salt concerned.) To produce a particularly homogeneous mass for the production of casts and similar objects, one finally relocates the resulting material Stone mass before it solidifies with finely powdered Schwerspath, FeIdspath and similar minerals. These precipitating masses avoid pores and air bubbles etc., the stone mass produced is therefore more consistent and harder and, because of its impermeability, more inaccessible to the influences of water and air, especially inside.
