Description
Process for the manufacture of colored bituminous masses The invention : aims to produce colored bituminous compounds at low cost and if possible in bright, lively colors.
According to a known method, colored asphalt is made by adding it made of metal oxides. The metal oxides and the inorganic dyes in general but have the disadvantage; that, they have no intimate association with the filler of the Enter mass, but only lie on it and encase it imperfectly. Consequently you can only achieve relatively dark shades with this process. In addition comes that this procedure is extremely costly.
A lively coloration of bituminous masses is obtained according to the invention at low cost thereby that asphalt limestone powder with a Solution or suspension of organic dyes, especially so-called lime dyes, treated and then mixed with light-colored bitumen, such as stearic pitch. The asphalt limestone powder can be replaced by bitumen-free stone powder (lime powder, sand, barite, etc.), after dyeing with a solution or suspension of organic dyes with mixed in a mixture of asphalt and light-colored biturns. As far as the If fillers are chemically indifferent, any organic colors can be used will. When using limestone and similar fillers, the basic can react, only the so-called lime colors, i.e. H. against basic Fabrics with permanent colors are possible. The organic colors are relatively penetrating deeply into the filler of the bituminous mass and thus cause an extensive Coloring through, especially if it is before mixing with the filler be dissolved or suspended. It is also possible, among other things, to use a green bituminous Manufacture mass with cheap means, their extraction so far only through use of the expensive chromium oxide was possible.
The use of organic paints is already for bituminous paints suggested. In these paints, the amount of color is up to go ° / o. In the case of the bituminous masses to be colored according to the invention. for road surfaces and the like, however, the color addition only reaches a proportion of five or even a fraction of a percentage. It has now been found that despite the small amounts of paint : a vivid coloring can be achieved because the organic Colors as more intense dyes - in contrast to: the inorganic colors - largely @penetrate into the filler.
In British Patent 212106 it was mentioned that one could Lithol red instead of mineral dyes, the bituminous masses as coloring Add agent. This - by the way, very expensive - dye comes from the known one Process contrary to the proposal of the invention as a pigment, but not in Solution or suspension form for use. Also there are mistakenly the organic colors are generally described as unsuitable.
It is also known to use highly silicon-containing minerals as a result color that, by means of a burning process on the surface of the minerals, such as B. chrome green, are generated. In contrast to this known method, where firing is required, the method of the invention consists in a simple mix. The sting is in the coloring of bituminous masses also not possible at all because the bitumen it contains at higher temperatures would burn.
After all, it is a process for coloring lime and the like Known minerals. In contrast to the invention, here are predominantly inorganic Paints (alkaline earth or metal paints) used; as far as organic colors are suggested the color is supposed to be here through a chemical conversion, through development can be achieved on the stone, e.g. B. by means of indigo, which is involved in the oxidation the air turns blue.
Although the light bitumens are also black and hence the name Only earn “bright” when compared with the otherwise common bitumen, but it has turned out to be Surprisingly it turned out to be extraordinarily luminous Brighter asphalt pavements contribute.
It is similar to the organic colors with the light ones Bitumens with regard to the state of the art: Paints are already known whose water-insoluble component consists entirely or at least in large part of stearic pitch consists. In contrast, the invention relates to the production of colored bituminous Masses of the type of rammed earth and mastic, which u for road and floor coverings. Like. To be used, to the high requirements in terms of strength are placed against pressure and impact and are therefore mostly made of rock must exist and thus for the components that influence the color (color and bitumen) leave only a small percentage. The manufacture of paints on the one hand and the bituminous masses mentioned on the other hand must therefore both because of the quantitative as well as the qualitative composition of the masses as distant areas are designated.
Some embodiments of the new method are as follows specified. Example I kg of natural asphalt rock are heated in a zoo Mixer with a solution of 0.1 kg of brilliant green in 3o kg of hot water. until the water has evaporated. Then 12 kg of stearic pitch are in a liquid state set and the mass is thoroughly ground while being heated; what to do for further processing is done in the known way. Example II 15 kg of gilsonite are added with 10 kg of wool fat pitch melted in a kettle with a stirrer. Be at the same time Mill zoo kg of fulling stone with a solution of 0.1 kg of brilliant scarlet in gasoline and heated until the solvent evaporates. This red colored material is added in individual portions to the molten bitumen with constant stirring, until a homogeneous mass is created. The further processing takes place as known.
