In den Hals c" der Füllflasche M mündet das Rohr N, welches in einen Ballon P oder mit einer sonstigen, Druckluft erzeugenden Vorrichtung als Pumpe, Blasebalg etc. in Verbindung ist. Durch H aber werden infolge seines Auslaufens in eine Spitze höchstens nur einige Tropfen ausfliefsen, und das Uebrige geht zurück, so dafs sich luftverdünnter Raum hierin bildet, wodurch von selbst die Bedingung für die Wirksamkeit dieses Rohres als Heber erfüllt wird; durch K dagegen ist der Eintritt der Flüssigkeit unbehindert, und bewirkt man denselben durch Drücken so lange, bis sie über die Oeffnung des Mafses G gestiegen ist und dasselbe gefüllt hat; selbstverständlich rnufs hierbei der Hahn α geschlossen sein. Der Ueberschufs läuft dann von selbst durch K K' L" L nach M zurück. Zum genauen Messen aber genügt dieses nicht, da sich auf G ein convexer Meniscus gebildet hat, der, durch die geringste Erschütterung oder dergleichen zerstört, das Resultat erheblich beeinflussen kann. Ein Aehnliches kann nicht stattfinden, wenn ein concaver Meniscus vorhanden ist, und diesen bildet man künstlich, indem man den Heber in die entsprechende Höhe des Mafsrandes herunterschiebt, wo er dann, wie oben ausgeführt, selbstthätig absaugt.
