Production of alkali hydroxide or carbonate, chloranunon and sulfuric acid
from alkali chloride and sulphurous acid By the method according to the invention
is to be made from the two raw materials alkali chloride in a technologically uniform process
and sulphurous acid are a number of valuable commercial products of large-scale chemical industry
be won. On the one hand, this combination of individual processes results in a
novel extraction of soda or potash. (or alkali hydrate) and on the other hand
a highly economical production of chlorammon and sulfuric acid. As
Sulphurous acid used as the starting material can preferably be sulphidic from the roasting gases
Ores originate.
an Wärme, Apparaturen u. dgl. erspart.Accordingly, according to the invention, the production of alkali hydroxide is intended
or carbonate, chlorammon and sulfuric acid from alkali chloride and sulphurous acid
be carried out by the following measures: a) Sulphurous acid and alkali chloride
converted to alkali sulfate and hydrochloric acid; b) the alkali metal sulfate from a is mixed
cyanized with coal and lime; c) the alkali metal cyanide from b is varseiet for the purpose of formation
of Alkalihydrö @ yd uger carbonate and ammonia; d) from the calcium sulfide from b
Hydrogen sulfide extracted and processed into sulfuric acid; e) the ammonia off
c is reacted with the hydrochloric acid from a to form chlorammonium. The basic idea of the
As can be seen from the technical rule given above, the invention encompasses the known
Hargreaves process, according to which sulfurous acid is brought into action on alkali metal chloride
becomes a new process with the cyanization and saponification of alkalis
together. The advanced effect of this summary @ is now to
that the very thin hydrochloric acid of the Hargreaves process, which was previously common
Applications of this process were not readily usable; but first concentrated
had to be, with the ammonia resulting from the saponification of the alkali without this
previously necessary concentration can be processed into chlorammonium. This will be
thus an otherwise necessary procedural stage and the associated expenses
saved in terms of heat, equipment and the like.
