Description
Process for obtaining vaccines from bacterial toxins In the Patent 525,484 has been shown to have bacteriophage properties of bacteria can be used to produce novel medicines and vaccines, by systematically cultivating other bacterial cultures.
It has now been found that the bacteria described there can also be used to obtain vaccines from bacterial toxins. By the If the same grows on bacterial toxin, this is done while sparing its immunizing Effect detoxifies. One proceeds in the manner described in the main patent by these bacterial cultures are grown on the bacterial toxins.
Vaccines produced in this way have the advantage that they on the one hand are injectable without irritation, on the other hand have lost their poisonous effect.
The detoxification of bacterial toxins has so far been achieved by that an antitoxin was added to the bacterial toxins and the resulting more or less neutralized mixture used as a vaccine, or that one added a chemical substance such as formaldehyde to the bacterial toxin, which, when applied appropriately, completely destroyed the poisonous effect, without destroying the immunizing effect. The neutral mixture produced in the first case can under certain circumstances be dismantled again, so that the poison component is released again will. The "vaccines made with formaldehyde, on the other hand, have the disadvantage cause pain when injected. Example diphtheria bacilli or Tetanus bacteria etc. are grown on broth in the usual way and the Degree of toxicity set. These toxins obtained and tested in this way are then combined with the Species of bacilli described in patent 525484, e.g. B. Bac. subt., mesenteric, mycoides, etc., inoculated and allowed to grow on a case by case basis after about 14 to 21 days to be tested on guinea pigs or rats for their full detoxification. The desired immunization instead of the non-detoxified one that has been customary since then Toxins can now be used in the same way with the advantage of greater speed and sterility take place.
