Description
Process for increasing the extensibility of structures made from cellulose hydrate It is known that threads, films and the like made from cellulose hydrate, as they are e.g. B. made of viscose or copper oxide ammonia solutions of cellulose can be obtained, with a soft-retaining Means, e.g. B. glycerine to impregnate to a stretchable in the dried state Product. The finished dried material then contains, especially if a greater ductility is to be achieved, quite considerable amounts of the softening agents that are not always desirable. It does not succeed - especially if drying under tension and in the heat has to be carried out - this is undesirable high content by subsequent extraction with water or by the fact that one of using less softening agent from the start, reducing it without one Material obtained that shows a greatly reduced ductility.
It has now been found that from the same starting product a Material with a relatively low (or negligible) softening agent content, but relatively high elongation can be obtained when looking at the products Cellulose hydrate, such as threads, films and the like, with a soft-holding agent before drying Medium, possibly in considerable amounts, impregnated and the excess of the softener after drying is not done by extraction with a pure aqueous solution, but in other ways, for example by dissolving with organic solvents such as methyl alcohol removed. The material suffers in the process low shrinkage without, as when using purely aqueous solutions, swelling precedes and the tear strength is temporarily reduced. This increases as the extraction proceeds. A solidification occurs one and, of course, hand in hand with it, a decrease in the originally high elasticity. However, this decrease in elasticity does not go as far as with a material that by impregnating with less softening agent or by subsequent extraction is brought to the same softening agent content with water, and then the effect of the procedure is based.
As a softening agent, all of the compounds, individually or when mixed with one another, the regenerated cellulose has a larger one Lend elasticity and suppleness, like glycerin and its substitutes or hygroscopic salts, which are softened by their bound crystal water works.
The impregnated material can dry faster and at a higher rate Temperature than usual due to the increased content of softeners forms a protection against excessive dehydration and becoming brittle.
The removal of the softening agent after drying can be done entirely or partially, immediately after drying or only after further processing of the material. It is best done by extracting with organic Solvents such as methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol and the like, or mixtures thereof, in which the softening agent is soluble and optionally up to the same Parts can be diluted with water. It is also possible to have the Effect of excess emollient by evaporation when going for impregnation a body, such as B. Glycol alone. or in a mixture with other emollients, used, which is less volatile than water, but not too high Let the temperature evaporate.
The effect of the procedure is intended, without thereby limiting it, by the following examples are explained.
Beispiele 1. Examples 1. Uniform films of cellulose hydrate, those of viscose solution are prepared before drying to a "part with a 1% i, -en aqueous Glycerin solution, on the other hand impregnated with a 15% glycerin solution and dried on a glass pad at about 6o'C. The one with 15% glycerine solution impregnated film, which after drying has a glycerol content of 32.6% about 2 minutes extracted with methyl alcohol and the adhering methyl alcohol in the heat evaporated. It shows a glycerol content of 3.5% and when tested an elongation of 10.3%, during the comparison film impregnated with i% glycerol solution with about twice the glycerine content (6, q.%) under the same conditions (humidity) has an elongation of only 7.9 olo.
A uniform film of cellulose hydrate is impregnated before drying one half with a 10% aqueous glycerol solution, the other half with a 1% solution of lactic acid ammonium and, after the excess impregnation liquid has been removed by wiping off, - .Dried on a glass pad at 60 ° C. The part treated with the solution of the lactic acid ammonium is then extracted for some time with methyl alcohol. The adhering methyl alcohol is removed by evaporation. The film, which only contains less than 1% of the impregnation agent, shows an average elongation of 17.2 %, while the comparison film, despite its content of q. % Glycerine has an average extensibility of 14.1% under the same test conditions.
A uniform film of cellulose hydrate is cut in half. The one Half is dried without the addition of impregnants, while the other is impregnated with an 8% solution of Chlorc.alcium before drying. Of the film treated with calcium chloride is extracted with methyl alcohol after drying. The calcium chloride content sinks to below 0.3 0.0. The mean extensibility is 14.5%, while the comparison film dried without impregnating agent was a medium one Shows stretchability of 1o, 6o, o.
