Bridge arrangement on soundboards for pianos and similar stringed instruments
In the modern piano, the rear suspension point of the strings is on the iron one
Plate in relatively close proximity to the web, that is, the line from which
transmit the string vibration energy to the soundboard through the intermediary of the bridge
will. It is inevitable that some of this energy is mediated
the rear part of the string migrates to the plate and is consumed in it, and
that in the opposite direction the inertial mass of this plate has a damping effect
exercises on the bridge and soundboard. The energy crossing the bridge exists
but for the most part no longer in the musically intended vibrations of the front one
Part of the string, but in the much faster vibrations, those of brevity, tension
and mass of the rear parts of the string. The energy of these perturbation vibrations
the back of the string is not only lost to the intended tone, but also
it also disturbs this not insignificantly by also starting from the rear edge of the bridge
is transferred to the resonance floor.
This damage to the clay is, as experiments have shown, thereby
made impossible that between the plate edge and the usual web this
parallel second web is inserted so close to the first that the between
both parts of the string are too short to produce audible tones.
Although it is known for the purpose of partially lifting the soundboard
at an intentionally greater distance from the main bridge as a so-called auxiliary bridge
metal strip connected to the floor by screws over the strings.
However, there are longer string sections between the two bridges that can still sound
remain, this institution not only has a different purpose in itself, but
above all, it does not cancel out the aforementioned harmful effects in any way
on, but intensifies it, because now the perturbation oscillations are the shorter ones
String sections not only have one, but even two bridges available,
to transfer their energy to the ground. Otherwise it is on some wooden feet
Metal bar on top and screwed to the floor is not intended to be a bridge at all
to address the piano technique and is therefore very different from
of the present invention.
The illustration shows the simplest case that the string a is attached to the auxiliary bridge
c and the main web b is pressed in the usual way by setting pins.
The soundboard is marked with d, the plate with e.
It is better to keep the auxiliary bridge a little lower than the main bridge
hold and give it a surface that is slightly inclined towards the auxiliary web.
In this case the strings must be pressed against the
Auxiliary bridge to be pulled down. Such organs can be agraffes, pressure rods, pressure plates
or the like. Nothing is changed in the essence of the invention if apart from the
a counter-web is arranged on both webs or if the surface of the auxiliary web
is equipped with a felt pad.
