Abstract
A rotary brake for a tower crane has a brake anchor and brake rotor held together by spring force and with a release brake which allows the boom to swing freely and follow the wind direction. The brake is moved into the open position by remote control and with a mechanical lock to retain the open position until actively released. A manual control provides additional failsafe release and locking of the boom. The control brake and release brake are mounted on top of the motor, inside the motor housing and cooled by an integral blower.
