Treat Terpin with water-releasing agents.
gebildet. As has been established, can be used for the production of the cineole

Nebenprodukten.
The simultaneous formation of two isomeric cineoles in the above

By-products. A useful separation method for those from i, ¢ - and i,
8-Cineole existing mixtures have not yet become known:
in Terpineol bzw.

The use of about 6% sulfuric acid or 8% phosphoric acid for hydration has proven to be particularly suitable. Changes in the acid concentration or the reaction temperature have only a minor influence on the degree of purity and the solidification point of the eucalyptol obtainable from the solution. It is thus possible in the indicated way to carry out a simple separation of the two isomeric cineoles, whereby the valuable eucalypto # 1 (1,8-cirneol) is obtained in pure form and the 1,4-cineol is converted into compounds, which in turn are carried out Treatment with mineral acids results in larger amounts of 1,8-cineole, so that practically no loss of valuable terpene compounds occurs when the separation process described is carried out. Example 1-
- kg of a mixture of about 45% terpene hydrocarbons (mainly limonene, terpinolene and a-, (3- and Y-terpinene) and about 22% each of 1, 4- and i, 8-cineole, which by the action of dehydrating agents on terpin hydrate Terpineol and the like have been obtained are cooled to -15 ° and added within one hour to 2660 g of 6% sulfuric acid, which is in a closed stirred vessel and has cooled to -12 ° The mixture at the same temperature is stirred for a further hour and allowed to sit for 5 hours. About 86o g of hydrocarbons are then separated from the acid solution and the latter is carefully alkalinized at about 0 ° g eucalyptol-rich oil obtained, which has an EP of about '- 12 °. By removing about 40 a-terpineol by means of vacuum distillation, a crude ethicalyptol is obtained, which has an EP of about a, --- 6 °. . A pure eucalyptol from EP o ° to - i ° and the density (20 °) of O.926 can be obtained from this by freezing out.
