Die gummiartige Masse ist in Ölen nicht löslich; sie verursachtin der Lacksiederei die so gefürchtete Fladenbildung, die bei zu kurzer trockener Destillation der Kopale beim nachträglichen Zusatz des Öles auftritt, eine auf der kolloidchemischen Natur des Systems Kopal-Öl beruhende Ausflockung des nicht vollständig wegdestillierten gummiartigen Stoffes. Durch weniger langes Ausschmelzen kann man einen Punkt erreichen, bei dem nach Zusatz des Öles gerade noch keine Ausflockung eintritt.
