Description

Process for the production of porous artificial stone masses A large number of processes for the production of porous artificial stone masses are known : The method on which the invention is based overcomes these difficulties. The essence of the process is that in the liquid agent required for solidification, usually water, a gel floats more or less finely divided in such an amount that the free liquid only fills the spaces between the gel pieces. The prerequisite is, of course, that the gel itself does not dissolve in the liquid. If a material that absorbs the liquid for setting is now added, it solidifies in the interstices between the gel particles to form a sponge-like porous structure. This structure can either be used in the state of origin itself (e.g. as an absorbent medium in dry elements or collectors for galvanic current) or, after the elimination of the oil state, for other purposes, for which porous masses are transformed. By using the gel, the total liquid becomes so viscous that the solidifying material does not sink to the bottom and it is also possible to introduce air bubbles in the usual way to increase the parosity then stirred with 70 g of water. Without the starch dissolving in the water, the total liquid becomes viscous and keeps the plaster of paris added in suspension, so it can be poured into molds. - After the plaster of paris has solidified, the mass can no longer be poured; the degree of strength naturally depends on the amount of plaster of paris added. But it succeeds z. B. with ro% gypsum (calculated on the total amount of the water-starch mixture) to achieve sufficient strength.
