Description
Method of Making Molded Artificial Horn Articles During Manufacture of molded pieces made of casein kuuisthorn can be used as well as free of manufacture of plates and rods made of artificial horn; first is the casein or casein-containing Mass produced which, under high pressure and heat, is brought into the final f'ortn and finally hardened and dried. This known type of production of fittings. from artificial horn, which is an association of the artificial horn manufacturing company with the production of everyday objects from artificial horn or parts thereof would have so far not achieved any considerable importance; in general it is Manufacture of artificial Caesar horn and the processing of the same item entirely separate companies remained. In the case of the inventor's experiments, which made unhardened Casein or casein-containing, freshly prepared masses obtained To process pieces into artificial horn, it turned out that the -in them Moisture, which is not absorbed by the pressure and the heat during the final molding is removed to a sufficient extent, often during curing and subsequent drying Causes warping of the pieces. But if from the casein or casein-containing mass (with or without the addition of fillers and dyes) first pressed bars or plates, These are then hardened and dried to get out of them by punching or cutting Manufacture preformed pieces, which are then pressed into the final shape by pressing under them high pressure, so much tension remains in them that warping to a greater or lesser extent due to changes in the water content during use entry. But even if for the production of certain fittings, eg. B. of buttons, .the hardened discs initially appear usable for further processing, so the latter requires a strong force, and @there always remains the danger of subsequent demolding.
By the method according to the invention, the method of manufacture of fittings, e.g. B. of buttons, much simplified and the existing ones Evil conditions are eliminated in such a way that extremely economical and scrap-free work is possible.
The method consists in its application for button manufacture in that strands of casein or caseinlialtiger mass that have not yet hardened and are not yet finished artificial horn, brought into the shape of dry discs, this by heating with the assistance of moisture, e.g. B. in the steam room or in the hot, moist air stream, quickly softened somewhat, in this state through Embossing or pressing, if necessary using heated embossing or pressing devices, in Button shape and then hardened and dried.
Appropriately sized discs Moderately suitable preformed pieces can also be used for other everyday objects, such as embossed tokens, dominoes, - Throat trinkets ii. Like., are processed.
The dry nature of the slices could be immediate, though also difficult and less good, can be achieved by adding moisture to casein is measured as low as it is necessary, in order to still just below very high pressure and heat to produce a uniform mass by kneading. Here, however, if an equal, good cohesion of the mass is to be found, a near power consumption a; the production of the cas> mass and the mass strands is slowed down. That is why it is preferable to add water to the casein or to the Casein mixes measured in the usual way and those made from the Strands obtained by cutting or from the measuring plates by punching Dry the panes in a warming cabinet, odex in a sensible manner, until at. solid panes are formed at normal temperature. These are through the subsequent exposure to heat quickly softened as much as necessary, in order to ensure sufficient displacement of the measuring particles during pressing and embossing into molded pieces and thereby to achieve an embossing that can withstand further processing. When the finished elastic synthetic horn material is stamped, tensions arise in the shaped 'body, which take effect under suitable conditions. That will avoided in the present procedure; because the slices or other preformed ones Pieces of casein. are in the state in which they are embossed or pressed, not sio elastic, but plastic and yielding enough that a tension-free Embrace occurs. The state of softening when heating the pre-cooked dried Pieces is not the result of an increase in the water content the Drying is intentionally reduced, but the effect of the heat on what remains Water content. The contribution of moisture to the heating is mainly used to prevent the surface of the slices and other pieces from drying out too much to protect when heated. The effect of moisture on the casein mass pieces is therefore superficial, the heat must penetrate the pieces, whereby the Moisture as a heat carrier and transmitter. contributes. The water content of the prefinge The mass of casein is so small that immediate hardening takes place without any disadvantage and also during drying there is no harmful throwing up and no other demolding can occur.
When processing slightly larger casein plates for production of large buttons or other shaped pieces, it is possible to maintain the embossing shape in the further processing after better by the fact that the moistened casein for the production of casein mass in a manner known per se, a weakly acting one Hardening agent is added, e.g. B. a solution of hexamethylenetetramine. As a result of the 'Addition of the hardening agent is also the final hardening, which is based on -: a surface layer can restrict, significantly accelerated.
.The preformed Cas eimnaas pieces from which the buttons or other Moldings can be produced, first of all the action: a weak-acting Hardening bath, e.g. B. a solution of and other metal salts, of tannic acid or exposed to other acidic precipitating compounds, then dried and the then obtained by embossing or pressing in the form of buttons. Pneßlinge through a stronger agent, e.g. B. formaldehyde, post-cured; here is also here Subsequent demolding is excluded to the greatest possible extent. .
The special technical and commercial advantages of the new process are: i. the avoidance or easy possibility of processing any waste; the resulting waste of the non-hardened or not fully hardened caseinmas: they can be used again for the production of the Cas: one mass without any disadvantage. The waste from processing fully hardened 1, Z'-unsthom requires recovery of a processable casein - the laborious and difficult separation of formaldehyde. For this reason, the artificial horn waste has so far only been used as a fertilizer; z. the significant simplification of the casein processing procedure to the finished N # unsthorn product and its mechanical feasibility; 3rd one Considerable savings in effort and time in the embossing and pressing process: eit, anyway a great consistency of the shape of the finished goods; q .. the possibility of one essential increased addition of bulking agents: without any adverse effect on elasticity the hardened mass and the durability of the finished artificial horn goods; 5. an essential Accelerated hardening, which for many synthetic horn products can be limited to the hardening or post-hardening of the outer layer. The entire procedure the processing of the casesn strands in the button production, for which very special the new process offers advantages, can be achieved by special machines with the least Apply force mechanically without waste.
It is best suited for operational use of the new method the casein mass produced according to patent specification 241 887.
