Description
Process for the production of noiselessly running gears. It is known that amorphous, thermoplastic products are formed by condensation of aromatic amines with more than equivalent amounts of aldehydes, in particular special formaldehyde, in the presence of acid, and subsequent elimination of the acid, which can be converted into infusible plastics by pressing at elevated temperature . The properties of synthetic masses obtained in this way can be changed in a variety of ways by adding fillers of various kinds. One can proceed in such a way that powdery or fibrous fillers are mixed dry with the finished press powders, followed by shaping.
Significantly more homogeneous synthetic materials can be obtained by impregnating the fillers with the solution of the condensation product before the acid is eliminated, whereupon the condensation product is deposited in and on the filler by eliminating the acid and, after washing, drying and, if necessary, crushing, compresses the resulting mass becomes. If paper or fabric is used in this process instead of powdery or fibrous fillers, then when the sheets obtained are placed on top of one another and pressed, layered shaped pieces are created. Furthermore, paper pulp can be saturated with the still acidic condensation solution and, after the acid has been eliminated, processed on paper or cardboard in the usual way.
By pressing the leaves obtained, completely homogeneous art masses can be obtained, which do not have any stratification.
Processes of this type are described, for example, in Swiss patent No. 125729 together with additional patents No. 141223, No. 142936, No. 144226, No. 141224, and in Swiss patent No. 146009.
It has now been shown that all synthetic masses left empty after these or analogous processes are ideally suited for the production of gears, which are to be used primarily for the construction of noiselessly running gears. So far, wood, rawhide or phenol-formaldehyde condensation products have been glued together layers of fabric for this purpose, but they all have the disadvantage that they have a certain structure, respectively. Layering, which requires special precautionary measures both in the manufacture of the wheels and in their installation.
In contrast, the newly proposed materials have a completely homogeneous structure. They are also characterized by great strength, toughness and elasticity, by hardness and easy machinability. They prove to be absolutely water- and oil-proof. The production of the gears takes place in such a way that the thermoplastic condensation products of aromatic amines and aldehydes are pressed in suitable shapes in the heat. If desired, you can first press raw moldings, which are then given the final shape by subsequent processing, such as punching, cutting the teeth and the like.
If necessary, it is useful to carry out the pressing in Geigenwart of hardening agents. Fillers, dyes, elasticizing agents and the like can also be added to the molding powder.
