Kleintransformatoren, Meßwandler und ähnliche elektrische Apparate, deren sämtliche aktive Teile in einem mit flüssigem Isoliermittel vollständig gefüllten Gefäß mit abgedichtetem Deckel untergebracht sind. Transformatoren u. dgl. mit Ölisolation werden heute meist -zur Verhinderung der Zersetzung des Öles durch den Sauerstoff der Luft und Verhinderung der Feuchtigkeitsaufnahme aus der Luft mit sogenannten Ausdehnungsgefäßen versehen. Letzteres ist ein mit dem Hauptgefäß des Transformators durch ein Rohr verbundenes kleineres Ölgefäß, das die durch die Temperaturschwankungen bedingte Volumenänderung des Öles ausgleicht. Bei Kleintransformatoren und Meßwandlern würde die Anbringung eines solchen Ausdehnungsgefäßes verhältnismäßig teuer und umständlich werden.
