Zusatz zum Patent No. 39313 vom 25. Juli 1886.Addition to patent no. 39313 of July 25, 1886.
Patentirt im Deutschen Reiche vom 10. Mai 1887 ab. Längste Dauer: 24. Juli 1901.Patented in the German Empire on May 10, 1887. Longest duration: July 24, 1901.
The present invention relates to several innovations in the method proposed by the D. R. P. No. 39313 protected element, through which the diffusion of the two liquids prevents BEZW. is made very difficult without the osmotic action of that which arises when the stream is closed To prevent gases, so that mutual neutralization is avoided as much as possible and the current strength is kept as constant as possible.
A series of attempts, which with the named elements with replacement of individual Parts of it were caused by other substances, has shown that this diffusion in significant measure restricted resp. can be almost completely prevented if one uses copper nitrate instead of copper chloride and, in this case, nitric acid instead of hydrochloric acid.
With this arrangement of the element the osmotic activity of the gases finds its progress, even if the porous cell only remains as a result of the action of the acid on the alkali contains neutral saline solution.
Ein derartiges Element kann folgendermafsen zusammengestellt werden:Such an element can be put together as follows:
The appropriately amalgamated zinc electrode is placed in the outer vessel made of glass or another suitable material which is a solution of a caustic alkali, e.g. B. of caustic soda, contains, the carbon electrode, however, in an inner, formed from a porous cell Arranged vessel containing a mixture of nitric acid with copper nitrate solution contains.
Of course, the arrangement can also be made the other way round, so that the zinc moves with it the caustic alkali solution in the porous cell and the carbon with the nitric acid copper nitrate solution is in the cauldron. The porous cell is always inside the outer vessel arranged.
For such an element can be zweckmäfsig the amalgamated zinc electrode in a caustic soda of 40 0 for example, which is located in the outward glass vessel, diving, while in the carbon electrode containing porous cell is a liquid fills, consisting of two parts of nitric acid of 35 0 B. and a part of a copper nitrate solution of 35 0 B. consists.
An element assembled in this way initially exhibited an electromotive force Force of 2.5 volts and after the electrodes through a short arc of closure Conducting 264 hours with each other. had been connected, another one of 2.4 volts.
Zu diesem Zwecke ist die Gegenwart von SaI-Instead of nitric acid and copper nitrate, one can also use sulfuric acid and Take copper sulfate. However, it must be noted here that by sulfuric acid and Copper sulphate alone does not prevent copper from being deposited on the carbon electrode. For this purpose, the presence of SaI-
For this reason, it will mostly be when using We recommend copper sulfate, not sulfuric acid alone, but sulfuric acid and nitric acid or to use nitric acid alone.
