A traffic warning display panel that can be located in the rear window of a vehicle has a matrix of light emitting diodes (2) that each have two colours, e.g. red and amber. The diodes are hard wired to a controller (4) via a flat ribbon connector (3). The controller can be used to allow half of the field to operate in one colour and the other may be operated in a blinking mode in the second colour. A keyboard (7) allows data to be entered. Specific data, such as `please follow, accident' may be displayed. USE/ADVANTAGE - Flexible means of providing traffic warning to road vehicle.

Description

The invention relates to a traffic signal light, ins special motor vehicle rear light with a light field for the display of the braking process and a light field for the display of the intended change of direction.

Traffic signal lights are in a variety of designs known shapes. In particular there are additional lights known for mounting in the rear window of a car are determined. These additional lights are said to traffic, any braking of the vehicle in front Show the vehicle even more clearly than the fixed on Motor vehicle installed rear lights, by the fact that they also through the windows of a cars driving in front are visible.

The traffic signal lights of the type mentioned has in common that they have divided light fields, that light up in different fluorescent colors, at for example in red to indicate the braking process or in yellow to indicate the intended change of direction sels. The additional lights discussed above have become in proven their function. The use of this To  set lights has recently declined, because of the high luminosity of this additive the following drivers light up. The relatively high luminosity is required because of the Luminous areas are relatively small.

It is an object of the invention, the traffic signal light of the type mentioned at the outset, that the illuminated areas indicating the respective function are particularly large without having a glare ben. In addition, there should be the possibility of If necessary, more information by means of the illuminated areas to be able to give to traffic.

To achieve this object, the invention proposes Starting from the traffic signal light called a new type of illuminated field. And that has Traffic signal light according to the invention a single, large-area illuminated field on which at a close distance to each other a large number of multi-color LEDs is arranged, which have at least two fluorescent colors and selected in each case by means of a control circuit groups in one or more fluorescent colors are controllable.

When using the traffic signal light according to the Er invention as a motor vehicle rear light is on display the respective function, e.g. B. braking or intentional ter change of direction, usually the entire big one Illuminated area available, for example for the Display of the braking process all on the large light multi-color LEDs arranged in the field in the color red can be controlled. This results in a large area Good, clearly visible brake signal for the following Traffic, which due to the lower light intensity  the individual LEDs do not dazzle. As well can be used to display an intended driving lane change all multi-color LEDs of the light panel of the yellow are controlled so that a large, widely visible, and yet not pale end direction signal. This driving line ting signal can of course - controlled by an ent talking flasher - in a conventional way flash. Will the motor vehicle during the driving line display is braked additionally, the multicolor Light-emitting diodes on half of the large-area light field in the color red, while the ver permanent multicolor LEDs continue in color flashing yellow. Another advantage is that in the event of failure of individual light-emitting diodes - unlike with back light up with light bulbs - the function is still fully functional is guaranteed.

When using the traffic signal light according to Invention as a traffic light or traffic control system can just if widely visible in a very large field and nevertheless not giving dazzling information signals to anyone those whose content can be designed as desired.

To perform the functions described above is the circuit in the traffic signal light according to the invention designed so that on the one hand all the more color diodes of the light field either in one or are controllable in the other color and that other at the same time part of the multicolor LED that of the light field in one color and the remaining one Part of the multi-color light-emitting diodes of the light field in the other color can be controlled.

A particularly preferred embodiment of the invention provides that the control circuit a programm baren microprocessor to generate any visible light symbols is provided on the light field. This makes it possible to determine certain on the light field Symbols, possibly also letters, appear leave which determined the following traffic Show dangerous situations or other information give. For example, on the large illuminated field, e.g. B. the word HELP will appear in red if Help is needed. Likewise, in the event of traffic jams Word JAM appear. When using the motor vehicle Rear taillight according to the invention in the rear window of For example, police vehicles can be used to control Instructions are given to vehicles such as PLEASE FOLLOW, KEEP RIGHT ROAD, CAUTION ACCIDENT, DO NOT THROW THE BURNING CIGARETTE, etc. If necessary, the yellow blinking direction of travel also show it in the form of a blinking yellow arrow seem, which additionally shows in which Direction of the driver driving ahead the direction of travel intends to change.

It is useful in the last-mentioned embodiment the control circuit controlled by the microprocessor connected to an input keyboard, which made it possible light to select the various symbols or if necessary, to form new words to be displayed.

An embodiment of a traffic signal light according to the invention is based on the drawing voltage explained in more detail in the schematic plan view on the light field of the motor vehicle rear light and the associated circuit are shown.

In the drawing, the light field of the motor vehicle rear light according to the invention is designated in its entirety by reference number 1 . On the light field, a large number of multi-color light-emitting diodes 2 are arranged in such a way that their light-emitting surfaces run parallel to the visible surface of the light field 1 .

The multi-color light-emitting diodes 2 each have at least two light colors, namely the colors red and yellow. In addition, they can e.g. B. still have the fluorescent color green.

Bei der zuletzt ge nannten Ansteuerung zeigt die Kraftfahrzeugrückleuchte gleichzeitig den Bremsvorgang und die beabsichtigte Fahrtrichtungsänderung an.The light-emitting diodes 2 are hard-wired on the back of the light field of FIG. 1 and connected to a control circuit 4 via a multiple flat wire 3 . The wiring and the control circuit 4 are constructed so that on the one hand all the multi-color LEDs 2 of the light field 1 can be controlled either in the color red or yellow and on the other hand at the same time part of the multi-color light-emitting diodes 2 of the light field 1 in the color red and the remaining part of the multicolor light-emitting diodes 2 of the light field 1 can be controlled in the color yellow. For example, the multi-color diodes 2 shown in the drawing, which are arranged to the left of the dashed line 5 , can be flashing yellow, while the multi-color diodes 2 located to the right of the dashed line 5 can be controlled in the luminous color red . In the case of the last-mentioned activation, the motor vehicle rear light simultaneously shows the braking process and the intended change in direction of travel.

If necessary, the control circuit can additionally be provided with a programmable microprocessor 6 for generating arbitrarily determinable light symbols on the light field 1 . With this microprocessor 6 , it is possible to generate, for example, arrows, circles, letters or the like on the luminous field 1 in the luminous colors of the multicolor light-emitting diodes, in order to give the following traffic appropriate information.

The control circuit 4 controlled by the microprocessor 6 can optionally be connected to an input keyboard 7 , which makes it possible to call up certain signals, colors or symbols.
