Abstract

The walking aid has an attached stand which holds the walking aid in an upright position when not in use. The stand is constructed from an upper ring (4) which can slide vertically on the walking aid shaft (1) and a lower ring (5) which is fixed to the shaft (1) by a clamping screw (6). Three equally spaced struts (7) are pivoted to the upper ring. Each strut is attached near its lower end to a link (8) which has its other end pivoted to the lower ring. A spring ring (9) holds the struts in their retracted position. By pressing the upper ring downwards the struts are swung outwards until the links are swung past their dead centre position. The struts are then in contact with the ground and are held in this position by the spring ring.
