Aluminiumlegierungen.
Man versucht deshalb
Aluminum alloys. Own the aluminum and its alloys
it is well known that there are some technological properties that greatly impair their usability.
When working with cutting tools (turning, planing, reeling, etc.) it has
known to smear the tendency. Aluminum bearings also eat away easily
fixed. Its strength is also insufficient for many purposes. So you try
in the most varied of ways, aluminum has better properties in these respects
admit.
In diesem Sinne bieten besonderes Interesse
illit schneidenden Werkzeugeis günstiger als die Aluininitunverbindungen, die entstehen;
The previous points of view on which the patent and other specialist literature are based always take for granted that the effect of various types of additives on aluminum is additive. If, for example, an additive A increases the hardness, an additive B increases the elongation, and an additive C imparts acid resistance, it is assumed that the simultaneous addition of A; B and C bring all three effects together. In a great many cases this is really true. For example, if tin, zinc and copper are added to aluminum at the same time, this adds up: essentially the effects of the individual components. The inventor's research has shown, however, that such simple conditions are by no means always present, that rather the simultaneous presence of the additives can influence one another in previously unpredictable ways, and that this gives one the opportunity to achieve new advantageous effects. In this sense, the elements boron, carbon and silicon are of particular interest. While other elements, such as the metals of the iron group, copper group, chromium-molybdenum-tungsten group, vanadium, titanium, zinc and magnesium, enter into chemical compounds with aluminum, the three elements boron, carbon and silicon are found in aluminum in the free state . So they have no chemical relationship to aluminum (apart from the formation of a carbide that only takes place when it is white heat, which then disintegrates again in the cold). So the properties that can be brought about individually by adding the three elements mentioned in aluminum do not bring any surprises. The situation is completely different if the elements mentioned are added at the same time. Then carbon and S.iaium combine to form carborundum, boron with carbon to form boron carbide, boron and silicon to form silicon board. These bodies, which are characterized, among other things, by their extraordinary hardness, are now embedded in the aluminum. Completely new effects are achieved by the simultaneous presence of the elements mentioned. Similar phenomena only occur if representatives of the group of refractory metals such as titanium, zirconium, vanadium, niobium, tantalum, thorium, chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, uranium or manganese, iron, cobalt, Nickel and copper additions. All of these metallic elements form certain compounds with the aluminum, e.g. B. A1 Cr, A13 V, A13 Uz, A14-In, Als Fc and others. More, which influence the properties of aluminum alloys through their hardness and brittleness. Andtscbaft to the mentioned high-melting -metals have to split up their connections with the aluminum and within the aluminum mass borides, carbides or borocarhides and, if the alloy also contains silicon, also silicon carbides, silicon borides and silicon borocarbides to form They are characterized by extremely extraordinary hardness and are able to solidify the aluminum compound to an excellent degree. At the same time, they are more favorable than the aluminum compounds that arise with regard to the grain structure, the segregation and shrinkage phenomena, the production of dense casts and the machinability of illit-cutting tools inan the mentioned metals without simultaneous addition ue of boron, carbon or silicon alloyed with the aluminum.
Accordingly, the invention consists in simultaneously bringing either boron and carbon or carbon and silicon or boron and silicon or boron and carbon individually or simultaneously on the one hand and the refractory metals on the other in aluminum or aluminum alloys to be present.
Since the effect of these additional mixtures by no means on pure aluminum
limited, but also extends to impure or 'egated aluminum,
so must the simultaneous addition of other necessary additions, which are independent
un, 1 exert their beneficial influence undisturbed by those mentioned so far, such as -Magisesitusi,
Silicon, beryllium, cerium or other rare earth metals, zinc, copper, nickel
and iron, are reserved.
