Abstract

An old staircase in renovated by an aluminium tread section, which has three parallel flanges (2, 3, 4) joined by a curved web. The tread section is secured to the edge of a worn stair tread (11) by screws which pass through holes in a fourth flange (8), at right angles to the lowest parallel flange (4). The screws are fixed into the stair riser (21). The space between the middle flange (3) and the worn tread is filled with plastics foam which expands to max twice its initial vol. on hardening and has a hardening time of several hours. The aluminium sections holds a new tread (14) in place.
