Abstract

The bonded sewing yarn is composed of a basic thread of multifilaments which is combined with a multifilament adhesive yarn by whirling them together in an eddy. The separate threads of the basic component are pref. whirled together to lock in loops and curves where one thread can be a core and the others can be for effect, and are then stretched to reduce the cross section to the required dia. The basic filaments are of a polyamide or polyester, with a higher m.pt. than the adhesive filaments, which are of a copolymer e.g. a copolyamide with a m.pt. of 60-160 deg.C. The basic yarns and/or the adhesive yarns pref. have a high filament count. The two components are eddied together in an air blower texturiser, and then fixed lengths are heat treated. The adhesive filaments are accelerated into the texturiser by differing amounts, while the basic thread is at a slower and constant speed, or two basic threads are fed at different but slower speeds, or they are all introduced at the same rate to be whirled together evenly. The combined filaments are drawn before the heat treatment, and cooled after it and then twisted.
