Abstract

A ceramic filter with non-linear internal flow paths, for purificn. of diesel engine exhaust fumes, is mounted by strats in an exhaust line chamber, with free access round most of the surface. In periods when the engine is inoperative, the filter is regenerated by burning off accumulated soot taken to a combustion temp. above 550 deg. C by air at temp. above normal exhaust gas temp. The air is produced by a separate burner with fuel ignited by a glow plug subject to timing controls, and is directed by a blower into the normal gas flow path.
