Im Hohlraum verbraucht eine Flamme den Sauerstoff. In den dadurch entstandenen Jnterdruck ;ird der Kolben gedrückt. Die Flamme erlischt (kein Sauerstoff). Der Kolben ist mit einer Kurbelwelle verbunden. An die Kurbelwelle können mehrere Flaschen mit Kolben und Zylindern angehängt werden.
