In the manufacture of potassium persulfate by electrolysis of solutions of potassium bisulfate a power yield of only about 40 percent is achieved. To increase this current yield various additives have been proposed / e.g. B. chlorine, fluorine, cyan or Rhodan compounds. These additives have the disadvantage that they created that Contaminate potassium persulphate and, for some purposes, render it unusable.
The present invention is based on that he. in the production of potassium persulphate 'by direct electrolysis as an elec-
' trbiyt'Lösürigeri used, in addition to potassium bisülfät considerable amounts of sulphates or bisulphates of sodium or ammonium or both at the same time.
It has been found that this yield can be increased considerably by adding sodium or ammonium sulfate or bisulfate to the electrolyte. The yield increases to 1 Z 2 - to 2 times. It was not foreseeable that z. B. an addition of sodium bisulfate has a favorable effect on the electrolysis, because in the electrolysis of sodium bisulfate alone for the production of sodium persulfate 'only a much lower yield is achieved. It has also been found that the potassium persulfate produced in this way contains no or only a few sodium or ammonium salts and is precipitated in better formed crystals and thus easier to process and also in higher percentages. While the potassium persulphate produced from pure potassium bisulphate solutions contains 5 to 10 percent potassium sulphate, a solution which also contains sodium or ammonium sulphate directly gives a half-percentage potassium persulphate.
