Process for the electrolytic preparation of ferricyanide from ferrocyanic salts.

It is known that a ferrocyanic salt can only be oxidized by the electric current in an alkaline solution without great losses; on the other hand, a ferricyan solution which contains only fairly considerable amounts of free alkali cannot be evaporated without a significant formation of forrocyan salt. Because of this regression, the final liquors are impure and therefore poorly crystallize. In addition, the evaporation of ferricyanide brine is always associated with the loss of a considerable part of this salt through complete decomposition.

The subject matter of the present invention is a process in which this harmful evaporation occurs completely and the ferricyanide potassium produced by the electrolytic oxidation of forrocyankalinm is immediately obtained in solid form.

The method is based on the observation that even saturated solutions of ferricyanide salts are still able to dissolve ferrocyanic salt in such an amount that the ferrous salt dissolved in them can still be electrolyzed with good yield.

If a saturated ferricyanklaium solution, in which ferrocyanic potassium has been dissolved until saturation, is subjected to electrolysis, the ferricyau potassium that is now formed can no longer be dissolved by the electrolyte and therefore precipitates in the form of solid crystals.

Accordingly, one proceeds according to the present invention in such a way that the electrolysis apparatus is charged with a saturated ferricyanide solution in which ferricyanide is dissolved to saturation and this solution is subjected to electrolysis.

to dissolve the ferricyanide salt that forms during electrolysis; this is constantly deposited on the ground in the form of solid crystals and is removed temporarily or continuously using known means.

With this method, the power output is not impaired by the high concentration of electrolytes in forricyanide potassium.

The process is appropriately applied to other ferrocyanic salts.
