Bei der Einführung des Kaliumperchlorat:; in die Sprengstoffherstellung hat sich gezeigt, daß man in den bekannten Sprengstoffmischungen das Kaliumchlorat nicht ohne weiteres durch Kaliumperchlorat ersetzen kann, auch nicht durch die dem höheren Sauerstoffgehalt entsprechende geänderte Menge Kaliumperchlorat. Während z. B. die Mischung von Kaliumchlorat und Petroleum einen guten Sprengstoff ergibt (vgl. Zeitschrift für das gesamte Schieß- und Sprengstoffwesen 1912, S. 480), erhält man aus Kaliumperchlorat und Petroleum keinen brauchbaren Sprengstoff. Um aus Kaliumperchlorat brauchbare Sprengstoffe zu erhalten, war man genötigt, Nitroglyzerin oder nitrierte Kohlenwasserstoffe zuzusetzen.
