The proposed innovation is the combination of medical treatment, shower and transport couches, hereinafter referred to as "combination couches". Compared to the state of the art, the combination mentioned saves considerable costs and also requires significantly less space in the corresponding rooms. According to the state of the art, three different couches must be used as needed.

Height-adjustable treatment couches, shower couches and transport couches are required in nursing and treatment, but also in elderly care. These facilities are designed and equipped differently depending on their intended use.

Since treatment couches are usually very simply designed, they cannot normally be used for other purposes, such as transportation. Their level of use is therefore often low, which is a significant disadvantage.

- Shower couches are needed to allow bedridden people to shower gently and have a work platform with a shower tray made of flexible plastic material. The work platform is height-adjustable and can therefore be brought to the same level as the patient's bed. This means that - without

Transport stretchers make it easier, as previously described for shower stretchers. The castors usually provided for the procedure are attached to a base frame, which also supports the lifting mechanism. There are grids on various sides to support the patient during transport. There are also designs where straps can be attached to protect the patient from falling. The head section can usually be tilted to make it easier to position the patient.

The disadvantage is that the transport couches are not normally suitable for treatments due to their design. In addition, the base frame is relatively heavy and limits the legroom for the staff. When the transport couch is not needed, a storage room must be available for it.

The proposed combination couch avoids the disadvantages mentioned above, since all the necessary properties that treatment, shower and transport couches must have are combined in this innovation.

The combination couch consists of a scissor lifting system without a base frame, which has four swivel arms with a total of eight swivel castors in the lower area and is connected to a work platform in the upper area on which a support plate rests. This work platform with support plate can be tilted as a whole (see shower couch). However, it is also possible to tilt just the head section of the support plate (see transport or treatment couch). The adjustment movements are supported by gas pressure springs, and the adjustment mechanism is designed so that one-handed operation is possible.

This is self-locking and is designed to ensure smooth operation, even when starting up. Since this linear drive is attached to the scissor lifting system as high as possible, there is enough legroom for the staff in the lower area. An electrically driven threaded spindle with a DC motor is preferably used as the linear drive, which is powered by a safety low voltage provided by a battery.

As mentioned, the proposed combination bed is equipped with a total of eight swivel castors, which are attached in pairs to four swivel arms. This means that the steering behavior of the castors remains unhindered and the combination bed can be easily moved in all directions, regardless of its height setting. The function of the castors is not impaired by the lifting movement in the above-mentioned design with swivel arms, as would be the case if the castors were attached directly, i.e. without a swivel arm, to the lower end of the rods of the scissor lifting system. In this case, the steering axes of the castors would become inclined and lose their steerability.

Another advantage of the swivel arms is that when driving over obstacles, the combination bed is only raised by half the height of the obstacle. This is related to the leverage ratios on the swivel arms. When the first swivel castor of a swivel arm rolls up onto an obstacle, its axle bolt and thus the lower end of the rod to which it is attached only moves up by half the amount, since the second swivel castor initially remains down. This behavior makes it easier to move the combination bed on uneven ground. But the reduced vertical movements and vertical accelerations are also an extraordinary advantage when the combination bed is used to transport patients who are sensitive to pain.

The advantages of the proposed combination lounger compared to the state of the art can be summarized as follows:

- Instead of three different couches, only one is needed, as the combination couch has all the features and adjustment options that are common on treatment, shower and transport couches. The investment costs and the expenses for storage space are correspondingly low.

- Since the combination couch can be used for a variety of purposes, it is possible in many cases to spare the patient from having to be transferred (e.g. from the transport couch to the treatment couch). This saves treatment costs and

- The use of an electrically driven threaded spindle with a DC motor and a battery as a power source ensures mains-independent lifting operation at any location. Muscle power is not required. The main advantage, however, is the smooth operation, which means that patients

j5 - very gentle. Another advantage is that there is no risk of electric shock, which is particularly important when using the combi lounger for showering purposes.

- Since the combi bed does not require a base frame, the scissor lifting system with the swivel arms and castors is particularly cost-effective. Weight is also saved and there is unobstructed foot space in the lower area.

- The design of the chassis with eight swivel castors on four swivel arms results in very good handling even on uneven surfaces. When a castor runs over an obstacle, the swivel arm's pivot point is only raised by half the height of the obstacle. This has a positive effect on the traction forces required

- Since castors are used on all four corners of the combi bed, it can be moved in all directions (including sideways and diagonally) and rotations around the vertical axis are possible. This is a significant advantage, especially when using the combi bed as a transport bed in narrow buildings.

Regarding Fig. 1:

This illustration describes the chassis and the scissor lifting system in particular. The combination bed shown is equipped with four swivel arms (20) (two of which are not visible). Only the front structural elements are shown in the illustration. The entire arrangement is a
